WASHINGTON, DC — First lady Melania Trump put a bow on this historic state dinner.
Melania stunned in a white bow blouse and sleek black tuxedo-inspired pants as she and President Trump hosted Thursday night’s lavish White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The stylish peony-motif brocade Dolce & Gabbana pants, bow-adorned Saint Laurent cotton poplin blouse, black silk Dolce & Gabbana cummerbund and sky-high black Christian Louboutin heels she wore to welcome Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan — took the internet by storm.
The first lady’s simple outfit had a more complex message — and it wasn’t that she’s the one who wears pants in the White House.
In choosing pants with a subtle peony pattern, Melania Trump was paying tribute to the “King of Flowers,” as the peony is known in Chinese culture. It symbolizes wealth, nobility, prosperity and romantic beauty.
The Chinese consider the peony the embodiment of feminine charm and perfection.

Never appropriate for a state dinner. Agree on that. Reminds me — speaking of the news of this week, the sad news about NASCAR Hall of Famer Darrell Waltrip with his brain symptoms caused by CTE.
Mr. Waltrip was part of a contrast at the 1999 GMA Dove Awards presenting Song of the Year with Kathy Troccoli (whom I’ve met a few times). He wore a traditional black tie outfit (your standard tuxedo), going to the Waldorf-Astoria (where NASCAR was hosting Prizegiving at the time). Miss Troccoli wore a tapestry pattern jacket with black trousers (that outfit, known by some as the “cheesy suit” best known for the GMA Dove incident with the then-52 year old driver) that she reprised on the jazz standard album “Together” (with Sandi Patty) later that year. In this case, if the presenter is dressed for a formal or a state dinner, he set the high standard.
The rule I have said is, “If the guy’s dressed for a State Dinner, then the gal has to dress the same way too.” In that case, the woman wasn’t right.
In this case, Melania isn’t right either. Makes me miss the days when Fox News required sheath dresses on women when men wore suits.
No Mrs Xi is culturally correct as a Chinese with her dress and is addressing her country.
She is such a class act, an excellent first lady.
To the Chinese, Mrs Xi is perfect......dressed to the nines.....culturally correct
But to an American she looks dowdy and frumpy......especially next to Melania.
Same here. My white and light shirts for some reason tend to be a magnet for spaghetti sauce in particular.

It’s happening to everyone...does anyone have any idea what’s going on with the slow posting??? It’s definitely not anything we’re doing...something is not right and I haven’t seen nor heard what the problem at FR is...
As for Melania’s outfit - she was the one time model and I never was or will be but that outfit just doesn’t do it...the bow would be an absolute nuisance. Model or not, I can’t believe her taste...

Dolce and Gabanna embossed pants and separate D/G silk cummerbund....and YSL bowed top.
That took a lot of creativity ......so she gets extra points for that.
I think Marco is getting worn out - he’s the busiest of the bunch except for the president. Maybe he’s trying to keep up with the president...He does a super job. I don’t care if his tie is crooked...He may even have been at the UN and left to hurry back to DC for the state dinner...

We all wore heels to work starting in the ‘50’s but nothing like that. Melania is going to pay a dear price with painful feet if she’s not already...After she started appearing in them, you notice all the women (whose feet are shown on TV) wear the same high heel..I went to lower heels probably in the ‘70’s and today suffer with foot neuropathy - probably not connected but who knows...the doctors sure don’t. We’re on our own there.

I would say that probably most of the females here - myself included - don’t even know what you’re talking about..not into designer duds...if THAT is the result - thank goodness!
