You are confusing LEDs with the old squiggly bulbs CFLs.
LEDs never had mercury.
That was the fluorescent light bulb you are thinking of.
Wasn’t it the curly-q fluorescent bulbs that were all the rage 40 years ago to save energy the ones with a bit of mercury? I don’t think LED bulbs ever had any Hg in them.
We stocked up on incandescents, as well. El Rushbo warned everyone to. I think he said he had storage rooms full of ‘em.
We still get them pretty cheap ... rough service bulbs are still incandescent.

I don’t think they have mercury as they are Diodes, like little electronic faucets. but mostly you can change the colors on them to match the yellow spectrum like the incandescent bulbs. The old florescent lights had issues as well due the emitting spectrum.
I believe it was the CFLs (compact fluorescent lights) which had the mercury. Today’s LEDs imo are quite safe and energy efficient. The lack of red light (high IR) is easily addressed with ‘amber’ LED lights, aka warm and also a straight up red LED light. I have a red LED bulb on the night side table for if I’m blahhh or need to reset my bio rythm. Lighton/Lightoff.
