President Donald Trump was highly complimentary of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) when speaking to the press outside Gracie Mansion on Monday.
The feed was provided by Spectrum News NY1 and taken by CNN in the midst of the White House press pool pushing back on Trump’s ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico.
In his remarks, Mamdani said the two discussed, “how we can make it easier to afford life in this great city that we call our home.”
Trump called Gracie Mansion “a special place,” adding, “I’ve seen it with numerous different mayors. And I said some great ones and some not-so-great ones. So, hopefully you’re going to be a great one,” Trump directed at Mamdani.
He continued:
I’ll be able to say, you’re going to be a great one, and you’re off to a start. So, I just want to thank the mayor for the invitation. I’m in New York to do the United Nations tomorrow. I have a lot of meetings right now today, very important meetings, with heads of different countries. But this is like a little bit of old home week for me because so many things we’ve done, so many things from the beautiful home or house or building standing right behind me.
When taking questions from the press, Trump said Mamdani had the “potential” to be a “great mayor.”
“I certainly hope he will be a great mayor. You have to understand, I want what’s good for New York,” Trump said of his hometown. “I want what’s good for the country. So, if I had a choice of having him be a bad mayor or horrible mayor, I don’t want that. I want him to be a great mayor, and he’s certainly got potential, got great potential.”
Trump has been highly critical of Mamdani, a democratic socialist, recently ripping the New York mayor and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as “terrible” for “laughing” during a ceremony for the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. In fact, the two were warmly greeting each other, not “laughing” as reported by MAGA pundits.
Trump has referred to Mamdani as a “communist,” and Mamdani has hit back at Trump, calling him a “fascist.”
When the two met at the White House, however, Trump was very complimentary of Mamdani, saying he was “better looking in person,” in a cozy meeting that shocked the political world.

Translation: “If or when hell freezes over and Mamdani has a frontal lobotomy or aliens come down and reprogram Mamdani’s brain or a Vatican-sanctioned miracle occurs and Mamdani has a spiritual epiphany or a bolt of lightning from God occurs that changes Mamdani’s entire being.... He’s perfectly capable of speaking without the need for translation. When he attacks Talarico or Newsom or Schumer, no one needs to check to see if he was winking when he was speaking.
There was no reason for the meeting with Mamdani and even less reason for uttering words that could even remotely be construed as praise.

Except... that’s not what Trump did or said. You just made that one up, apparently in order to bash Trump. What Trump actually said:

Everyone has the “potential” to do good or to do a good/great job. Everyone has that choice. Trump spoke the absolute, indisputable truth. He just stopped short of saying that he doubted that Mamdani ever would “choose to do good”.
But I’m betting that that is what he was thinking. Wouldn’t be prudent to say exactly what he was thinking, though...lol. I would have. I have that character flaw of saying exactly what I’m thinking... no matter what. Thank God Trump has control of his words when he needs to, yet he gets no credit for that from anyone, including from AH leftists.
I think that there is much misunderstanding of Donald Trump on FR. Far from being a knight with a double-edged battle axe, he is an old-school New York Liberal who went to a military academy, back when the Left could still do that.
I think we are lucky that real-estate has made him uniquely American. You can’t pick up your buildings and leave. However much China appeals to the greed of many, Trump knows where his investments are.
I think he knows that NYC is stuck with its choices. He also wants it to survive them. That, I think, is what he is saying.

Au contraire, it’s the President of the United States who made positive comments regarding Mamdami. They’re quoted in the article above.
You cannot find a SINGLE kind word for him written by me because I have never uttered or written one since he came on the political scene.
The President is wrong. Again. He has good policies but is often a poor judge of character.
You seem to object that I have put Madmani in the same category as the late unlamented Fuhrer of the former "Third Reich". Indeed, you characterized it as a "weird leap". I think it's not weird at all. In fact, I think your objection is more than a little weird.
