What should become of New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle when their socialist experiments blow up?
Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s calling out a property owner in New York City, Attorney General James of New York attacking President Trump in a decision that was overturned in 2025, Elon Musk’s Delaware pay package ruling subsequently overruled by shareholders — all have something in common: Attack capital, and do not be shocked by the flight of capital from your communities or states.
New York City, Seattle, and Los Angeles are just a few of the cities experimenting with the Democratic Socialists of America agenda, a modified form of communism. The consequences of their actions have not yet begun to be felt, but the outcomes will be catastrophic.
These trends will lead our nation to a decision point: bailout or no bailout. The decision will have to be made, and the timing will be the next major recession.
In the past, our nation has taken a “bailout” approach almost always, preventing the needed lessons from being learned. Instead, others have been called upon to pay the price. No lessons learned, and the behavior gets replicated, as we as see playing out today.
Years ago, while serving in the Marine Corps, I spent considerable time in Haiti. It taught me an economic lesson I have never forgotten. Following the 1991 military coup, the United States and international community imposed economic sanctions on Haiti. Those actions may have been justified, but justified decisions still have consequences.
I watched businesses leave. The economic statistics eventually documented the devastation. Between 1991 and 1994, Haiti’s real GDP declined by roughly 30 percent. Investment collapsed from approximately 11 percent of GDP to about 2 percent. Export-oriented assembly industries, which had been enormously important to the country’s exports, virtually ceased operating.

No bailouts. Stupidity should be painful.
Will there eventually be another Democrat president? For sure.
Then for sure these D cities will eventually get a federal bailout.
It might even happen if there’s a Republican president, as part of a deal with a Democrat Congress.
🙁
Detroit didn't learn it. It's looking like San Francisco may have by degree. So from what I can tell, it'll be "we'll see." I don't see much hope for LA if the entertainment industry leaves en masse.
There are cities all across the country that have long since passed their prime. Syracuse, Indianapolis, Detroit, etc. Economic trends shifted, the cities declined. The cities are smaller, poorer, less important.
Seattle, New York, Los Angeles can follow in those footsteps. Port facilities may have lasting value, and the shell of a great city may remain so that the ports can still be used — but most of the people ought to go someplace that isn’t insane. There is nothing for normal people in these blue cities.
“No bailouts. Stupidity should be painful.”
Do not underestimate the stupidity of the American public. A socialist president in ‘28 will bail out all the blue socialist cities until the entire country is broke. Something like Venezuela.
The dem super-majority in state government is constantly trying to find new tax sources to fund the teacher union utopia, and is running short all the time.
And Pritzker still has fantasies of being President. God help America if that happens.
Your comment: "No bailouts. Stupidity should be painful."
Your comment is spot on, and at its source, the simple principle is liberty. Capital -- like donations in the offering plate in church -- is a matter of who "will" and who "will not."
Let them die, and make sure those responsable for that death aren't able to pretend they didn't have a hand it.
Exactly right. That inevitable scenario is why the rot keeps getting worse.
Bkmk
They know most of the Dem plans don’t work, so why should they ever be supported with a bailout? hard lessons that need to be learned are better learned the hard way, but by affecting the general populace as little as possible. Of course, if most of the populace supported Dems, then what can you say?
Metropolitan areas grew up in specific areas for a reason. Shipping and receiving goods. Industry built along waterway, natural ports, rail hubs and highways. The ports which are automated in most countries no longer need masses of workers. The industries that needed workers in those regions no longer exist or are much smaller. When Blacks from the South flooded the North they were seen as cheap labor, they have since been replaced. We moved to a service industry economy and the cities have become $hit holes. The middle class and above moved to the burbs. Now the burbs are being taken over with low income housing and crap schools. What middle class is left are following the upper class out of the States. Consequently to retain control RAT governments, State, Local and municipal, started giving $hit away creating an entire class of leeches. Very slowly but noticeably the feral entitled class are taking over cities turning them into dung heaps. Eventually you will be left with metropolitan dystopian societies.
Blue States driving out their tax base:
“Paramount Studios is reportedly in the process of leaving California...This move is driven by an escalating antitrust lawsuit filed by Bonta and 11 other states to block Paramount’s $110 billion merger with Warner Bros.
Economic Impact: A full relocation could result in the loss of up to 58,000 jobs and $21.2 billion in annual economic output for California.”
I’m all in favor of ‘tough love’ in the form of nuclear strikes.
Great article on causes and effects, great to use Haiti as an example.
But in my view the discussion of making choices falls short. Why does Chicago make all the choices and decisions for Illinois? Why does NYC make all the choices and decisions for New York State? Ask that question for other massive blue cities in “blue” states. The answer is a Supreme Court case from the 1960s that is nonsensical, but forgotten today.
The Court’s “One man, one vote” decision on apportioning state legislatures means the massive cities control everyone in the state. Says the Supreme Court: “It is unconstitutional for a state to have a senate apportioned by geographic areas like the US Senate is in the US Constitution.” This means rural voters may just as well skip elections on state issues, as their votes can’t matter. So, choices are made only by the radical, leftist imbeciles now ruling blue cities.
Great article about cause and effect, but no suggestion of how different choices could really be made. We need a new Supreme Court challenge on state legislature apportionment.
And it cannot be blamed on any one politician or political party. Or fixed by them. It is the general culture of the place. Giuliani was at best a speed bump on the road to Hell.
No to "tough love". Let them die.
Something ponder: Every county in America gets 1 electoral vote. Every county in a state gets one vote on matters in the state brought up for a vote. Every homeowner in a sub gets a vote on matters that come to a vote in the HOA.
“economic sanctions”
They only affect income, not assets.
My income is something disgraceful, but I still have my house, my appliances, my furniture, books, computers, etc.
Putin still lives in a palace, can get almost any food he desires including everything traditionally Russian, and a jet airplane is available upon his command.
Life goes on.
Cut off all Fed aid. 100%.
CaCaLand’s model is get Fed $$ and then redistribute it to internal projects as they see fit — especially if it can be skimmed and given to illegal voters.
Any penny given to any blue area is a penny that will be misused to harm the US.
Two alternatives:
close all roads in for a week.
