Chuck Norris, ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s Nicholas Brendon Among Those Skipped By Emmys In Memoriam

While Monday night’s Emmy Awards show remembered Dolly Parton, Rob Reiner, Catherine O’Hara and other industry figures who have recently died, there were some notable omissions.

Chuck Norris, who died last March after a career that included eight seasons fronting the CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger, was one familiar name skipped by the commemoration. Also missing were Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon and Patrick Muldoon, who had roles on Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place.

Daveigh Chase, whose TV credits included the Disney Channel series adaptation of Lilo & Stitch along with HBO’s Big Love, also was not mentioned. Jaye P. Morgan, who appeared on The Gong Show, and voice actors Peter Cullen and Tom Kane were likewise omitted from the broadcast.

While Brendon was not singled out by name, he was alluded to by Buffy co-stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz during a different moment in the show. “It has been a tough two years for our beloved cast and crew, and we feel very lucky to have known and worked with such amazing people,” Gellar said. Along with Brendon, Anthony Head and Michelle Trachtenberg have died over the past two years.

The in memoriam dimension of the Emmys resonated this year along with the stand-alone remembrance of Parton. Sally Field and Reba McEntire spoke about and lifted a song to their friend and collaborator, respectively. Parton died at the end of August. The primary segment was marked by the raw emotion shown by Jamie Lee Curtis in her tribute to Reiner, as well as Macaulay Culkin, who remembered O’Hara. Culkin was accompanied by O’Hara’s Schitt’s Creek co-stars Annie Murphy and Dan Levy.

In past years, omissions of people from the in memoriam package have stirred up outrage on social media, but this year’s response was muted, with a handful of media outlets the main scorekeepers.

The Television Academy annually has to make decisions about who appears in the televised in memoriam segment. The organization publishes a more comprehensive roster on its website, including names included on air along with those who were not included.

These award show charades rank 500,001 on my “Top 500,000 Things I Care About” list. We all know Chuck was the best.

If you haven’t watched primetime network TV for the past ~20 years, it is interesting to see the ugly, talentless people who are now “celebrities” and how full of themselves they are.

Once again... They’ve given most of the awards to a show that nobody has ever watched, nor heard of.

The whole point of the Emmys is now to promote elitist television.

“Award” shows are just obnoxious people patting themselves on the back so it feels like someone still likes them or thinks they’re doing something good.

That said, I’d like to point out that “last March” would be 2025 or the year before the current year.

“In March”, or “this past March” would mean 2026 or the current year.

Chuck died this past March, not last March.

Leaving him out is a terrible slight considering the contribution Chuck made to film and television, but it’s not a surprise.

It’s ever more disgusting how far the left has gone.

“””””I’ll bet Chuck Norris was intentionally left out.............””””””

Absolutely, he was a star in different genres, like the martial arts/Bruce Lee world, the Stallone/Schwarzenegger type action movies, the long running TV series, he had a long varied career, was a role model, a little political, and deeply embedded in the culture, with widespread popularity and total name recognition, too big to ignore except on purpose.

Apologizing for the US and bending over backwards to recognize Canada seemed to be the main themes of the Emmys, along with self-righteous speeches by Sally Field and other winners.

I don’t now, nor have I ever, cared about millionaires celebrating and patting other millionaires on the back.

Just under 2/3rds of the general audience of awards shows are female. That said, women must be turned off of them too given that the overall viewership seems to have dropped.

Do they have a time of death range? For example, I think the Oscars covers the previous year so those who died between January 1st and broadcast time have to wait for next year.

Put a chick in it, and make it gay and lame.
