Victoria Simone Burks is charged with attempted second-degree murder and simple criminal damage to property, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Deputies were called to an apartment complex in the 8100 block of Bayou Fountain Avenue at around 3:08 p.m. Sept. 11 in reference to a shooting.
Investigators said Burks and the victim had been in a relationship for several years. The victim told detectives the two had argued and that he damaged the windshield of Burks’ vehicle before she armed herself with a pistol, according to the arrest report.
The victim said he ran toward his apartment after seeing the weapon, and Burks fired several shots in his direction. He was not injured, deputies said.
Burks later told investigators she fired one shot toward the victim, then fired two more shots after he ran away, according to the report. Detectives said they found spent shell casings, damage to a nearby fence, and a firearm inside Burks’ vehicle.
