Plus-size fashionistas worry GLP1-s will make it even harder for them to shop

Buying clothes has always been challenging for Ann Lindsay.

As a plus-sized 41-year-old, she finds many stores' plus-size offerings too matronly or too expensive.

Lately, it's gotten worse: Last month, she noticed that her local Target in Chicago removed plus sizes entirely. There were significantly fewer options online, too.

In the pre-Covid era, big box retailers pushed inclusive sizing with fanfare. ("Whatever the tag says, you're always a size YES to us," Old Navy proclaimed in a massive campaign in 2018.)

But now plus-size shoppers say inclusive sizing is dwindling, as the rise of GLP-1s fuels worries about a return of skinny culture – a fashion and culture resurgence in thinness.

"I see the direction of skinny culture," Lindsay said. "Brands are just falling right in line with what they think people want."

Orthopedic Surgeons also worry about their business as they won’t have quite as many diabetics to cut limbs off of, since losing weight significantly affects the complications of diabetes.

What stores? There are no decent physical department stores anymore. Gone are the days when you could go to a clothing store, look through their offerings on a rack, try things on, feel the fabric, and find what you were looking for. I sure as hell wouldn't go to Target or Walmart to find what I'm looking for. I used to be able to buy Chic jeans in different colors, and their cotton slacks in various shades in a store. They don't even make those slacks anymore. Today, you can't find clothing made of pure cotton. Everything is polyester blend. I hate buying anything online. Even Playtex stopped making the style of bra I wore for many years. They make crap now.

It's called being healthy and normal, you tub of lard.

Push back from the table and stay out of the cookie jar.

A variety of tents are sold at sporting goods stores.
There is surely a wide choice of styles.

Fat ladies can always lose weight. Healther and they’ll look better too.

I weigh 112... Lots of pretty things in my closet, but some are too large now. Should probably talk to my MD about forgetting to eat.

I like the phrase “inclusive sizing.” Does that refer to clothing that fully includes all of your fat frame?

“Plus-sized” at age 41? She will only have ten more years of problems finding clothes.

Well there is always the option of becoming fit through reasonable diet and exercise. Show a little bit of self control.

Hi there. Are you a large person? Pleasantly plump? A little on the hefty side, perhaps? Well, let's face it. Are you fat?

When you go jogging, do you leave potholes? When you make love, do you have to give directions? At the zoo, do elephants throw you peanuts? Do you look at a menu and say, "OK"?

Well, now you can eat all you want... because at Thornton Melon's Tall and Fat stores... we've got you covered. That's right... fine woolen and woolen blend suits... and sport coats in all the larger sizes... husky, stout, extra-stout and the new Hindenburg line.

And for you ladies, we have caftans, muumuus... and our own exclusive A-frame in all colors and patterns. Yes, we have miles and miles of fabric.

So take it from me, Thornton Melon... if you want to look thin, you hang out with fat people.
