Bush: Isolationism Ignores Central Lesson of 9/11

Former President George W. Bush warned that Americans risk forgetting a critical lesson of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks if the United States turns inward and ignores threats developing overseas.

"Our nation occasionally goes through isolationist periods, where the attitude is, 'Well, we've got too many problems at home. Therefore, who cares about what happens overseas?'" Bush said Wednesday, according to CBS News. "Which really means to me they just don't pay attention to the lessons of 9/11, because what happens overseas matters to our national security at home."

Bush delivered the warning at his presidential library in Dallas alongside former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who served as his national security adviser when terrorists attacked the United States nearly 25 years ago.

The former president said the U.S. does not necessarily need to deploy soldiers abroad but should support people fighting tyranny.

"We don't have to send troops," Bush said. "We ought to at least stand with them and stand beside them because this is what we went through 250 years ago. And again, it's a belief that everybody wants to be free, and we saw that in Afghanistan."

Bush ordered U.S. forces into Afghanistan after 9/11, beginning what became America's longest war. U.S. forces withdrew in 2021 after nearly 20 years, and the Taliban returned to power.

The 43rd president pushed back against arguments that Afghans did not understand the difference between life under a democratic government and Taliban rule.

Before US soldiers got stationed in Arab lands, Americans were loved in Arab lands. American companies had all the oil business they could handle there. Osama bin Laden attacked on 911 as revenge for presence of American soldiers in his country of birth.

Bush-43 created the biggest mess in middle-east by removing dictator Saddam, who had all the religious fanatics rotting in prisons. When Saddam was removed from power the vacuum was taken over by ISIS.

Islam, “the religion of peace”, has territory in Texas and all over the republic Jorge. MoFos are not here to assimilate. Read the Muslim Manifesto and supporting writings. Witness history and current events around the world. What do you think should be done?

Isolationism sure looks funny when foreign countries are investing trillions of dollars here.

Does George Bush have the guts to correct his statement and tell us that Islam is not a religion of peace?

Bush is an idiot. He thinks if you’re not overtly trying to nation build, you’re an isolationist.

“And again, it’s a belief that everybody wants to be free”

But that isn’t true. It’s the sort of thing, what we want to believe, but it’s a huge mistake. It’s not even true in this country. Projecting wishful fairy-tales on other foreign lands is a fool’s errand.

If isolationism were our problem, we wouldn't have a muslim mayor in the city where muslims killed thousands using airplanes as missiles. Isolate. Defend the border. And send forces to kill enemies where they live instead welcoming those they send to kill us where we live. Isolationism works. The first President George Washington in his Farewell Address warned us specifically against losing our isolationist tendencies.

No, we don’t. Just poison the terrorist strongholds. With plutonium.
