A Massachusetts mother who allegedly killed her young son and daughter was seen sobbing and shaking in court after the judge denied her bail on Thursday morning.
Janette MacAusland, 49, pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder after police said she allegedly strangled her kids at their $1.5 million home in an affluent Boston suburb.
Kai and Ella MacAusland, seven and six, died on April 24 after MacAusland strangled them at their Wellesley residence while she was going through a bitter divorce with their father, according to police.
The accused mom was handcuffed for her hearing at Dedham District Court where she sported a red jumpsuit and black glasses.
Throughout the hearing, acupuncturist MacAusland nodded her head several times, cried and winced when the kids were mentioned, using her arms to wipe away tears.
Her lawyer, Joseph Krowski Jr, suggested a $25,000 bail, 24/7 GPS surveillance, home confinement and a probation period.
Krowski Jr added that MacAusland 'should not be deprived of her liberty while they get their act together,' in reference to the medical examiner as the cause of her children's death remains unclear.
‘We are really in an intermediate state of limbo,' the lawyer added. However, his request for bail was denied.
Speaking after the hearing, Krowski said: 'This is not Lindsay Clancy 2.0.
'Jeanette MacAusland is her own woman, but there's been a discussion, a discourse that's opened up in this country about whether or not we want to criminalize mental illness.'
Krowski Jr further claimed mental health institutions, legal institutions and criminal justice institutions 'failed' MacAusland.
He also said that he thinks the case could not be decided 'in this building,' adding that it should be brought to the Dedham Superior Court.

The “acupuncturist” should experience some dull-pointed “acupuncture”.
This copycat trend of killing children must be stopped. If that means going Old Testament with punishments, so be it, but this needs to be nipped in the bud post-haste.
Weaponized Mental Health
I recall that Vlad The Impaler had a method of punishment that was pretty effective at dissuading copycats.
There's nothing quite like seeing the killer you thought about copying, impaled in the town courtyard and worked over by the crows.
“Krowski Jr further claimed mental health institutions, legal institutions and criminal justice institutions ‘failed’ MacAusland.”......here we go......again.
I’ve said before that as time marches on and the more I witness, I find more and more that Vlad was a measured and reasonable man.
What happened to Rule 303?
I guess murder is still illegal here…Thank God!
Cue the horde of pink-clad, purple-haired Maenads.
what’s with Massachusetts???
Sorry, this IS Lindsay Clancy 2.0
People don't want to accept how many times it would need to be applied.
“what’s with Massachusetts???”
Who knows... Maybe it’s an idol worship of the murderous Ted Kennedy who ran for president after killing Mary Jo.
Obviously we aren’t seeing the bigger issue and not seeing beyond the brutal murder of the two kiddos.
Some females do abuse their children as a way of hurting the father. Killing the kids is quite extreme and sick.
Is her being an acupuncturist really relevant enough to put in the headline? I mean if she was a CPA would it say CPA in the headline?
> This copycat trend of killing children must be stopped. <
One single juror on the Lindsay Clancy case was able to tap the brakes on this horrific trend.
But expect the trend to accelerate if Clancy is found not guilty in a new trial.
“She got away with it. I probably will, too.”
AWFLs are a cancer on this nation.
Death penalty.
NOT replaced by rule .7.62
