US Postal Worker Indicted After Dumping at Least 30,000 Pieces of Mail in Vacant Lots Since 2024

A St. Louis postal worker has been federally indicted after allegedly dumping an astonishing 30,000 pieces of Americans’ mail in overgrown vacant lots instead of delivering it.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, 54-year-old Armond Paige was indicted on September 2 on one count of delaying or destroying mail while employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

Federal prosecutors allege Paige discarded the mail in vacant, weed-covered lots across St. Louis from approximately 2024 through April 29, 2026.

At the time of the alleged scheme, Paige was working out of the Maryville Gardens Post Office on Meramec Street in south St. Louis.

Paige appeared in federal court Tuesday and pleaded not guilty, according to the Justice Department and First Alert 4.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gwen Carroll is prosecuting the case.

The indictment does not identify the contents of the discarded mail, state that election ballots were among the 30,000 pieces, or allege that Paige acted with a political motive.

First Alert 4 photographed the same kind of scene in April: a heap of soaked envelopes and junk mail rotting in the grass.

I noticed each year there would be a story about a postal carrier who couldn’t keep up with the stressful quotas for deliveries and then was found to have hidden lots of mail in a vacant lot or abandoned slum building.

Once in a while we mail something vitally important to follow a rule such as settlement of an estate. An original document usually. To lose such a thing would be terrible. Not everything is scanned with a tech gadget or counts as like the original. Due to AI and photoshopping of the item.

Also true of some etsy or ebay items sent. First editions, rare items.

I was a summer letter carrier for three years in college and two years in medical school.

One year was a DEI year and the regular subs didn’t get hired so that opportunties for thise left behind could be expanded.

The mail on two of my regular routes wound up in the sewer. That was the end of the experiment.

The postal service has lost more of my mail in the last 6 years than the rest of my 59 years combined and all of it either had a check in it or in one case a gift card.

Brilliant. He’s probably still trying to figure out how they caught him.

My favorite was a house fire in suburban Chicago. Seems to me it was in the late ‘70s. As part of their routine firefighting techniques, firefighters used a Gaffing hook to tear down the drywall ceiling and ventilate the attic space above. Thousands of pieces of mail cascaded down on the firefighters. The home was owned by a postal carrier who, at the time of the fire, was apparently “working” his route. In the end, the amount of mail tossed in the attic was a staggering multiple of the 30k in this story. Most of it was in good enough shape to deliver. AI cannot come fast enough for the postal service, in mine opinion.

I wish he would dump all my mail in a lot. So much for the “paperless society”. I throw 99% of it away without opening.

There used to be a device for sale that would turn junk mail into a fireplace log...........
