In 1994, the Clinton Administration conducted a gun control study, particularly addressing the number of defensive gun uses every year. They were certain they’d debunk the numbers—up to 2.5 million—which would produce more restrictive laws. Despite using biased methodology, they found, to their horror, 1.5 million. They tried to bury the results, but they leaked. They learned an important lesson: be careful what you ask for; you might not get it.
In The CDC honestly reports; gun grabbers would prefer they didn’t, I reported on another updated effort gun grabbers hoped would damage that 2.5 million reality. It didn’t:
In 2021, professor William English published the findings of his National Firearms Survey, by far the most comprehensive assessment of gun ownership ever conducted. The data demonstrated that defensive gun uses were commonplace, that ordinary Americans really like the weapons gun control activists hate most and that longstanding stereotypes about the "sort" of Americans who exercise their Second Amendment rights were misplaced.
Gun control activists predictably hated this. They attacked the report’s conclusions and author, blasting the survey over nitpicky concerns. English explained how the alleged problems wouldn’t have significantly impacted the results. Critics categorically dismissed the report anyway.
So, English humored them. He re-administered the survey, "fixing" its alleged "mistakes."
With the Supreme Court soon to clarify the Bruen “in common use” test, Gun grabbers were desperate to prove virtually no one owns AR-15s and “high-capacity magazines.” The new survey estimated 26.4 million own AR-15s and 44.5 million own magazines with greater than 10-round capacity. Because surveys are always taken from small samples compared with the actual population, and gun owners are notoriously suspicious of gun surveys, both numbers are surely low.
The original 2021 survey found 1.67 [million] annual defensive gun uses. That appalled gun grabbers

Wasn’t me. Back in the day when I was much younger and packing a Walther PPK when in town. - literally dropped in a tux after an evening at the National. (“Agrippina” for fellow Handel fans.). But same response.
Don’t leave home without it.
Re: AR-15’s: I guess they’re “in common use”.
CC
I had to check. Yes, it is that CDC. What the Center for Disease Control has to do with guns is a story in itself. How can you trust the CDC when ideology means more than their mission?
I have displayed a gun three times to deter potentially violent people, all young black males, all at gas stations. One was probably a false alarm but don’t walk up on me at 6:00 am while I’m pumping gas. Two would never have happened 10 years earlier but cheap ass, government provided section 8 apartments brought them my area. Section 8 is destroying once peaceful neighborhoods, and it’s getting worse and worse.
Look at the gun sales numbers.
Sheik Obama (piss be upon him) and Bite-Me are the greatest gun salesmen who have ever lived. Before that duo the US never sold 10 million guns (thru FFLs) in a year. Sales have never been less than 10 million since. The number peaked at 23.7 million under Bite-Me and now 13 million is a “slow” year.
2005 was the first year that AR-15 sales amounted to at least 5% of total gun sales. During Sheikh Obama’s (PBUH) first term it hit 10%. Now it’s running about 20-25%. One gun out of every four or five sold is an AR.
There have been fifteen times (15x) more ARs sold to ‘civilians’ in the 17 years since Sheikh Obama (PBUH) was immaculated as in the 46 years previous.
It blows my mind that we’re selling more ARs now than Ruger 10-22s.
The first was in Palm Bay Florida. I was at my bank ATM getting money to buy groceries at the Publix across the street. All of a sudden police cars were everywhere and I was blocked in. William Cruz (old white dude) had gone on his mass murder shooting spree at the Publix where I was only a few minutes from doing my shopping. I had a Glock 30 in my glove compartment, but I don't think Florida had a CCW law yet so I would have been unarmed inside the store.
The second happened not too long after that. I had gone shopping after work at the grocery store across the street from the previously mentioned Publix. I think I was followed to my apartment because I drove an expensive sports car and this person probably thought I was a drug dealer. After I got all groceries inside and put up I heard the door knob jiggle. I looked out of the peep hole and there was a weird guy (young, white, very large, shaved head and tattoos everywhere). I was not sure if he was there to see the college students who lived across the hall, but I went and retrieved my nightstand gun, a 44 SPL revolver. As I went to look out of the peep hole again he busted in my door. He charged in with his hands out like he intended to grab me by the neck. When he saw the revolver aimed at his head he changed direction and ran out.
The third incident happened after I had a CCW. I was at the same ATM (outside the bank) on a Sunday morning and when I started entering my information into the ATM a car started up at the gas station next to the bank and pulled up in the handicapped space right behind me. There were five young hispanic looking males all with identical red bandannas on their heads and they were arguing about "you gettim, no you gettim" I was pocket carrying a Colt Pony Pocketlite 380, but I thought it was not up to fighting off five at the same time. I grabbed the ATM card and the cash and sprinted back to my car and got my Glock 30 out of the glove compartment. And they were already squealing their tires getting out of there. I did not even get a license plate number. Since then I have spent much time looking into concealability, reliability, cartridge effectiveness and magazine capacity. The options today are incredible.
Section 8 housing is essentially the same way to destroy prosperous areas as importing millions of third world migrant criminals and jihadis. The left is just a demolition team.
I’m sorry, but that’s not allowed to be true.
“gun owners are notoriously suspicious of gun surveys”
Gun owners are even more suspicious of reporting their use of a gun to stop or prevent a crime in progress.
Twice my life has been saved by those practicing concealed carry, who just happened to be near by when I was being attacked.
In Neither one of those incidents will one see any mention of the use of concealed carry in the police reports. It would be very difficult to measure the number of these incidents that are not in the official statistics.
(This is true, not just of gun statistics...but of many statistics.... they often miss the many people who don’t want to be counted...who don’t want to be high profile or put a target on their back.)
“Every one of those who carry will know which Party stands against their right to armed self-defense.”
But who will organize to produce a large TURNOUT in the election? In the primaries, the turnout of 2A & friends was very low.
Every Red government should follow FL and prevent FLOCK cameras in all government/public areas.
In my home invasion incident, the police told me that if I filed a report that my gun would be confiscated for being at a crime scene. I asked “what if he comes back?”. The police person said that is when you call us. I had other guns, but I didn’t want them to be at a “Crime Scene” too. I told them I did not want to file a report. My apartment refused to fix the door damage without a police report. I had to pay for it myself. But I still have my revolver from that day.
“not anywhere close to their wheelhouse.”
1946 to 2025 the “wheelhouse” of the CDC has been to increase their budget and headcount .... by any means necessary.
Not to argue, but how do you know that?
