US Mint rolls out new $1 coins featuring President Trump’s face (the mugshot?)

President Trump’s face is now on a new $1 coin being sold by the US Mint, and collectors will have to shell out more than a buck to get their hands on one.

The Mint is selling the commemorative coins featuring the sitting president as part of its celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, according to its website.

“These coins are also in circulation, so check your pocket change. Collect them today!” the Mint said on X.

The Philadelphia-minted currency is available in 25-coin rolls and 100-coin bags, and priced between $61 and $154.50, the Mint said.

One side features a portrait of Trump alongside the inscriptions “liberty” and “in God we trust” in all caps, along with “1776 ~ 2026.”

The portrait was designed by US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna and was inspired by an official White House photograph taken by Daniel Torok, according to the Mint.

Good point, although I believe that the total mintage of the Trump dollar coin will be anywhere from 9mil-15mil or thereabouts but will STILL get scarfed up by those running across them. In mint terms, 9mil is a SHORT RUN!

I don't handle $100 bill very often, but the mint will be releasing special $100 bills WITH TRUMP'S SIGNATURE ON THEM in honor of America's 250th. Those will also be sought after, although fewer people will be able to keep them for financial reasons.

A bit was 12.5 cents. It goes back to an eighth of a dollar based on the original Spanish piece of eight which was the original basis of the US dollar.

Two bits was 1/4 dollar, or 1/4 of a Spanish coin.

It all goes back to silver coins.

"Trump’s appearance on the coin raised an unusual legal question because federal law generally restricts living people from appearing on US currency."

They've tried to kill him enough times that he qualifies to have his face on a coin while he's still alive.

"What’s the secret to getting through the first time?"

I honestly have no idea. I set a reminder on my phone months ago when this sale was announced. When I logged on at 12ET the website put me in a queue that took an hour waiting before I could buy.

There are so many coin dealers who try to buy up everything from every mint release. The only thing I can recommend is to have an account with the Mint and log in shortly before anything you want is released.

Example. I am on the waiting list for the new Liberty Half dollars with expected delivery in October

Not something you'll find in your pocket change.

"Those are not “rare” coins."

Agreed. Give it time.

The Roman mites in my collection took 2,000 years to be worth something.

I'm not patient enough to wait two thousand years for these Trump coins to be worth something.

But at least I have them now. Satisfied.

Even with the signature Trump hair, it looks more like MLK than the MLK statue at the memorial.

You nailed it, sir. I mentioned it for younger readers to understand.

"Two bits
Four bits
Eight bits
A dollar"

I'd like to get my hands on a couple of those!

You know, for collecting and such.

this is a base metal token with gold plating/paint of some sort ... a collector’s item only ... maybe a little better resale value than Franklin Mint crap ... at least until a decade or so down the road ...

Boy, you drew out the anti-Trumpers on this thread.

What was supposed to be numismatic announcement turned out to be exposing Trump-haters.

What a mess.

I look forward to seeing Trump dollar coins in circulation.
