NASA’s powerful new Nancy Grace Roman Telescope begins cosmic mission

NASA's new flagship astronomical observatory was launched into space from Florida on August 30 on a mission to probe some of the biggest mysteries in astrophysics and cosmology. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, a roughly $4 billion project, was carried aloft from NASA's Kennedy Space Center aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. The telescope is designed to investigate cosmic enigmas such as dark energy and dark matter, while also testing gravity at vast scales and searching for exoplanets. Roman will travel through space toward an orbital location called Lagrange Point 2, situated about a million miles (1.6 million km) from Earth. Its mission is planned for five years, though the U.S. space agency said the telescope may have enough fuel for five additional years.

I know the country spends money on stuff far crazier than that.

You're not talking about welfare benefits for Undocumented aliens are you?!

Because that would be RACIST. And just plain old mean.

You're not a meany are you?

You might want to look at the chosen color temp cast of your monitors...the pics don’t look overy orange to me.

If that is a project that adds to the national debt, then from that basis I would have to wonder how necessary that research is. The debt has gotten to a real serious point & I know projects like this one are very expensive.

The Hubble Space Telescope allowed us to see a certain distance into the Universe. The James Webb Infrared Space Telescope can “see” even further.

Some of the Webb Telescope discoveries are of things that “should not be there” according to some current theories. Some “scientists” balk at the discoveries upsetting their cosmological apple cart.

Real scientists say something close to “wow!, back to the drawing board.”

What is beyond the capabilities, limits of the Webb Space Telescope?

We shall see.

We’re talking about space telescopes, not terrestrial art photography.

pic one... no orange...

Pic 2 a little orange

Pic 3 and this is what we see most of, the very same shade of pink/orange/yellow...

What I consider a real picture from a billion dollar telescope. Not some morons imagination... but still notice the very sam tint of orange around the spiral arms! The Very same brightness and tint.

They’re trying to point out different things in the image. Without the enhancements you wouldn’t be able to pick out different objects and effects from the whole mass.

We have different technology now that conveys more information, and in different ways, than in the past.

I figured it was a Roman telescope named for Nancy Grace. But I never knew that the Romans had telescopes.

Me too. I could not find any picture which portrayed how she really looks on her show. But I agree with her going after the bad guys.

“Why did they name it after that annoying woman?”

Why is it called Nancy Grace Roman?

Nancy Grace Roman (May 16, 1925 – December 25, 2018) was an American astronomer known as the “Mother of Hubble” for her key role in planning the Hubble Space Telescope. She was also NASA’s first chief of astronomy and the first female executive at NASA.

Questions for "sit-rep":

do you think nebulas and galaxies are close enough you can get them in the back grounds of recognizable mountain and volcano ranges?

Do you understand the concept of "orbit". Do you know where a "space telescope" is located? Do you really think your question makes any sense?

pics from the other 2 telescopes overly enhanced with the color orange?

Do you know in what wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation the images from those telescopes were collected. Do you even know what electromagnetic radiation is?

ALL have the same EXACT hue and brightness of orange??

Do you have any idea how the colors in the NASA space telescope images are assigned? Do you know why colors even have to be assigned?

Your tag line: No. You're not stupid. You're ignorant, and that is curable if you allow it to be cured.
