Conservatives slammed Gov. Kathy Hochul for wearing a headscarf during a visit to an Islamic center in New York City over the weekend.
The Democratic governor wore a charcoal gray suit and a black scarf mirroring those many Muslim women don to symbolize modesty and their religious faith, according to a clip of the appearance at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York in Queens.
Hochul addressed the congregants during the weekly Friday Jummah prayer service, giving a shout out to “his excellency” Tareq Albanai — the United Nation’s permanent representative for Kuwait — thanking him for welcoming her to “be part of the family.”
The center later thanked her for addressing the congregation and touring its school facilities.
“Her visit was a meaningful recognition of the role ICCS plays in New York as a community partner serving and bringing together New Yorkers from across our diverse city and state.”
But some right-wing critics seized on the appearance.
“A self-described feminist voluntarily wearing a hijab to not offend/arouse Muslim men. Oh, the irony,” wrote swimmer and women’s sports activist Riley Gaines.
GOP Texas Congressman Brandon Gill also propped up the photo opp to accuse Dems of hypocrisy.

Democrat Gov Hochul identifies strongly as a "liberated woman"---a die-hard feminist---defining herself as "aware" of women's challenges and working to "improve" women's lives. She has championed issues like domestic violence survivor protections, reproductive rights, freeing women from male dominance, all of them anathema to followers of Islam.
Maybe the feminist-driven Hochul still thinks Muslims are “asylum seekers.” Maybe like the Brits she'll issue a “govt booklet” targeted at marauding invaders... bent on conquest ----advising them:

<>women control what to wear, where to go, who to see,
<>and they, not men, make decisions about themselves.
Did she tell the Islamics she liberated women to work outside the home, earn their own money, attend university, travel freely, choose whom to marry — or whether to marry at all — and make their own decisions about their lives?
