GENEVA (AP) — A shooting at a rave in the northern Swiss canton of Aargau left one person dead and five wounded early Sunday, local police and media reported. Police said they are still looking for potentially more than one suspect.
Aargau cantonal police wrote earlier on X that a 22-year-old woman died of injuries at the scene. Four men and one woman, between 24 and 27 years old, were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe.
All of the victims are residents of Switzerland, police said. They did not release their names in line with Swiss privacy rules.
“The manhunt is continuing nonstop at full speed,” police spokesperson Bernhard Graser told reporters on Sunday afternoon.
He said police had no information yet about possible motives. Asked whether a terrorist attack was a possibility, Graser said that “the fact that the rave was already winding down suggests that’s not the case. A fight could also be a possibility.”
Public shootings are rare in the Alpine country despite relatively widespread gun ownership.
“In terms of its nature, this incident is certainly unique in recent years,” Graser said. “We don’t yet know the full extent of it, but based purely on the circumstances, it is something truly extraordinary. That’s why there’s such a large police presence.”
Authorities were alerted around 2:30 a.m. to the shooting in the canton’s capital Aarau, 46 kilometers (29 miles) west of Zurich, Police spokesperson Pascal Wenzel told Swiss public broadcaster SRF.

No, the Swiss are not wired like you. Have you been there? I doubt it.
Who knows what happened in this particular incident. But out of curiosity I looked a few things up.
Switzerland has very permissive gun laws. But Switzerland does not allow carry in public without a permit. Such permits are not easy to come by. Your job must require it.
Aargau Is 5.5% Muslim. Yes, I found that surprising. And not in a good way.

“Residents” of Switzerland......hmmmmmmmmm! Yoodle eh hee WHO? But, their gun laws are not as wide open as most people have been led to believe. As in Israel where you would think an armed camp exists.
I have. I hated it. The mountains are beautiful of course, but the people are awful. You know all those things you've heard about the French - rude, arrogant, snotty, etc.? I did not find that in France, but I did find it in Switzerland. And everything is exceeding expensive.
Some Background on this.
I live quite close to this and have been following it most of the day.
This occurred at the end of a festival weekend in Aarau. There would have been, at its height, likely close to 10k people in the area.
One young woman died on the scene and 5 other people were injured. At least 3 of the victims were from Italy, but residing in Switzerland.
Aarau is very close to both Germany and France, so the indication that all are residents simply implies that they were not visitors of either of those countries - unlike the major fire on New Years in Crans-Montana where a lot of foreign visitors were among the victims.
A video which was posted earlier today, recorded the sounds of the gunshots - by my count about 30 in rather rapid succession, which, to my mind indicates a rifle of some sorts (most military aged men have their service rifle at home). Either that, or there were several gunmen.
The police have been very tight lipped about the whole incident. They imply that they know little or nothing about the shooter(s) which seems unlikely as there would have been sufficient witnesses. At the same time they claim there is no threat at the moment as they have indications that the shooters are no longer in the area (make of that what you will).
In about an hour, there will be another press conference with hopefully more details.
This event hits home for me as many of my friends, and my sons, normally attend such events - and I was there myself a few years back.
And to confirm what others have mentioned - gun crime here is rather rare, simply because it is almost impossible to obtain one - it has changed a bit over the years, but, the fact that military reservists (mostly)have their guns at home is not a great deterrent.

I lived in Geneva briefly. I never found the Swiss to be rude. A bit distant, but not rude or snotty.
For that matter, outside of Paris I found the vast majority of the French to be quite nice. Parisians are A-holes.
Are gang factions and/or drug turf wars prevalent in Switzerland?
Not really, but that kind of what I was referring to in my earlier post - there does seem to be a rise in criminal groups - mostly from the Balkans (not necessarily Muslims) and a recent report shows that a lot of the asylum seekers from northern Africa (about 80%!!) commits crimes. This is opposed to the overall average of about 13% from all other groups.

Further, there have been recent incidents, mostly against Jews in Switzerland, where the police and the media have not hesitated to imply such motives.
And, if and when they do find the shooter(s), their nationality and motives will be made public here.

As I suspected, Aargau is up north near the border with Germany. IIRC, a few years ago the Swiss had been doing the lax border checks thing due to their participation in the Schengen Area - "migrants" were allowed to cross from Germany and continue on to either France or Italy. Big surprise, they found that some of those people weren't making the second border crossing. The Swiss tightened things up at that point, but it's likely that some problems linger in that 5.5%.
