Roland Nice spent eight minutes in the car park in Haverhill, Suffolk, after discovering he was not allowed to pay in cash.
After trudging between two machines with the help of his walking stick only to realise his 20-year-old Nokia couldn't download the payment app, he left.
Days later, the grandfather was slapped with a £100 fine – reduced to £60 if he paid within a fortnight – for the time he spent there.
'I find it very frustrating. Eventually, banks are going to work it so you have to do everything by card,' he said.
'I've always been a cash man to pay for everything.'

Not being nice to Nice.
Indeed. And those seemingly innocuous CBDCs being talked up? Control points at the individual level....
We use cash a lot, and enjoy doing so.
Literally OK boomer. Seriously this is the 21st century if you intend to leave your private property then you will need to be ready to be in the 21st century if not stay home. Remember kiddies society doesn’t cater to you outside your private property come into general public and it’s our rules not yours. Yeah it’s like that. 100% legally so too. I the works of SNL suck it Tribec.
Alot of companies/businesses these days don’t have websites, and automatically assume you use Facebook to connect with them. I also don’t put 3rd party apps on my iPhone, and the majority of apps that came with it are turned off.
Wow, you are a jerk!
You epitomize everything wrong with your generation.

Couldnt use a credit card?
Yeah, but they are going to have a good “social credit score” in the future!
A good time to pick up more silver or gold (with cash ;-) ):

I got a FREE Google Pixel phone from Xfinity last year.
My guess is all customers can get free phones from their service provider with a commitment contract.
“Couldnt use a credit card?”
Mom couldn’t have at that age. They only used cash, and had old flip phones.
“Eventually, banks are going to work it so you have to do everything by card,’ he said.”
About 2 years, to be exact.
My guess is there are many of us out here who don’t want or need a “commitment contract” with anybody.
On top of that, if you think any “service provider” is giving you anything for free I got a great deal on a bridge for you. Only been used few years......
You’re just jealous. We boomers made good lives for ourselves through hard work and good ethics.
And we’re NOT SHARING with the lazy whiners. 😆
You’re right, the geezer should have bowed to the inevitable, drunk from the cup and gone full Soylent Green.
They demand everyone have a smart phone
I am quite happy with Xfinity mobil. Prices are competitive and have zero problems with phone.
One day you’ll be old, if God blesses you with a long life. Maybe by then MAID will become mandatory for the Xers.
In our town, at some of these parking places it is APP only. We just ignore, and will pay fine if it happens.
