IndyCar drivers revved their engines and tore up Pennsylvania Avenue Saturday as they prepared to meet in competition in the heart of the nation’s capital.
Cars were roaring through the 1.7-mile track carved out of streets in downtown Washington, DC, as a tune up for Sunday’s race — on a track that runs by the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall and within sight of the Capitol building.
President Trump, who signed an order calling for an Indy car race in DC, is set to drive the course in his armored limo “the Beast” on race day.
He will also wave the green flag at the start of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in recognition of the nation’s 250th birthday, said Bud Denker, president of the Penske Corp., which is organizing the race.
Drivers will speed through 147 laps, and are expected to top 170 mph while handling tight corners on the city’s streets.
First lady Melania Trump, who also appeared at the White House this week to support the race, is expected to join the president in the viewing stands.
More than 100,000 fans are expected to attend.
Organizers built barricades and welded down manhole covers in an effort to protect citizens and infrastructure. Meanwhile, city residents were forced to navigate road closures for weeks while the track was being constructed.
The race features luxury suites sponsored by Delta, Gulfstream and Verizon that were going for $250,000, plus “Champions Club” members paying $5,000 for viewing with good sightlines.

I highly doubt that Trump will be “driving” The Beast...
This sounds Race ist.
Thanks for posting...I lost track of that (no pun intended) with the Braves and Brewers playing in Williamsport tomorrow at the Little League World Series...and watching the kids games...great time for those kids. A couple of kids from
Venezuela were not allowed into the country with their team because of irregular paperwork. Imagine the heartbreak of those kids...
Haahhaahaa! Just the thought of that makes me laugh, and...he does want to do it by the way. Here is genuine video of him fighting for the wheel of "The Beast", so you know he wants to!
What kind of irregular paperwork? I know that the Little League World Series has had issues in the past with overage players who had a decided advantage over 11 and 12 year old opponents. Is anything else involved?
Everybody Was KungFu Fighting!
.
Trump’s a Badass
They could have an in-car dash cam showing PDJT grabbing the steering wheel from the Secret Service driver, and taking off down K Street. Show it on the Jumbotron. Crowd would go nuts.
I swear. I am trying to enjoy this, because we will never see another President like him.
I believe this is history in the making, as long as we can wrest the narrative of history that the Left has held for so long.
I am not much into car racing, but this looks like a blast to watch!!!!
Utterly amazing that some leftist judge didn’t kill this at the 11th hour.
This is one of the neatest things done for the celebration. I suppose they do it in Europe all the time, racing on city streets. Seems the turns are just too sharp. Barriers the entire course have to be anchored and expensive. Hopefully no accident spins out and over the fences.
This I may actually watch. It is major.
That crosswalk bump is just not compatible with this type of race or car. Some have gone airborne. 147 laps of that?

Hahahahaha. AI may suck, AI may be dangerous, AI may end up dooming us all, but I just got some AI agent to make this-absolutely perfect!!!!!!!
I Love AI! I Hate AI.
See? It has already in this short time produced a schizophrenic.
Nicaragua.....It looks like it happened in 2025 with Venezuela...that may be what I found when I did the first search. It didn’t surprise me this came up with a different country as I figured it was just more of the ERRORS that are happening in searches...
Try it with another search engine and see what you come up with. I always use Bing. One search this week said that Donald Trump used to be the White House Press Secretary when I asked a question about a quote from a WH press secretary from years ago.
Ask this question a third time about the kids not given permission to come to the US for the LLWS and you might get a third different answer...
All we can determine now is DON’T BELIEVE anything you’re told!
I found that interesting, the irregularity in the road. They weren’t going to fix it, so...every racer has to deal with it!
To me, if that is what this kind of racing is about, I could see getting interested in it.
One of the things I have always loved about Football is that it is played in all elements that are nearly inhumane and dangerous to play in.
The Ice Bowl Game between the Packers and the Cowboys back in the sixties, that kind of thing.
I love it that they never, or very rarely call a game because of weather. (Lightning storms excluded)
In this type of car race, all drivers have to figure out for themselves how to approach that.
A couple people seemed to absolutely fly through that intersection with no problem. I bet ever single racing team out there is watching all that video to see how they got through it.
This is exciting.
I AM HERE!!!!
In Bobby Vans having dinner after qualifying
99% MAGA at the qualifying today....lots of Trump hats!!!
A LOT of people on hand for the race. I have not seen a single protester...
Thanks soooo much for posting this!!!
Hoosier born and have been to 43 Indy 500 and have probably watched at least 60! (major family tradition!)
Check out the link in post #10. Practice with a drone flying around. Looks like every building has seats on top.
Before we moved to (just west of) Indianapolis, we had only watched the Indy 500 on tv about a dozen times over the years.
Now that we are here and understand what goes on there, more than we had before, the Indy 500 is a must watch on TV. It’s a ton of fun. It’s an event like the Kentucky Derby, only the race is longer.
We’ve been to the Brickyard (and kissed the bricks!), but have yet to go to the 500 in person. Still planning on it, though!
