Looking for Film DvD Bluray recommendations. Life is hard right now and I am looking for immersive films and shows that aren't too treacle sweet but have a bit of depth. Not violent, complex is good. Nice is good.
My beloved Morse trilogy has worked, Gentlemen prefer Blonds, Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend, Harvey, the original All Creatures Great and Small, the Poiot series, Babbetes Feast, Primer, Signs, singing in the Rain, It happened one night,Mrs Miniver, Blast From the Pat, Galexy Quest, Christmas in Connecticut, An ebayer is trying to screw me over by having sent me the wrong region when i asked for Make Way for Tomorrow.
I guess I am looking for feel good black and whites and early color films. Some films that have left you smiling. Not haha comedy. Just nice. Like Singing in the Rain nice.
Ones without a message.... just watched the film Pleasantville and found it beyond stupid. Was it marketed to young teens?
Anyhow again I will compile and put together a lost and post it at the end of the thread for everyone to have to print off.
Thank you.

I think Volunteers had John Candy and Tom Hanks. I could be mistaken.
I”A Simple Twist of Fate” is such a great movie.
Princess Mononoke
Flow
Yep, all good. Operation Petticoat brings to mind that great movie Mr. Roberts. Not sure why but it does.
My best DVD is “North by Northwest”. with Hitchcock directing and , starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, and James Mason, you can’t go wrong..

Have you tried your local library ? Some offer streaming of videos via your library card They may have hard copies for check out as well.
Pleasantville is awful, it’s a screed of lefty nonsense.
One I really do love is “A Mighty Wind”, it’s a Christopher Guest mockumentary about a memorial reunion concert for a man who helped get the Folk Scene rolling back in the day.
It might sound a bit lefty, but we had a lefty friend who didn’t like it because he thought it made fun of lefties.
It’s really just a warm-hearted, feel good movie, that treats it subjects with love and humor. Starring lots of great folks, with great, original songs.
Really very funny & sweet. Highly recommended to cheer a person up!

If you have streaming capability then Kanopy has an amazing selection of movies and shows. Check to see if your local library participates.
Great recommendation (except for the reprise season).
You betcha! Been buying from Thrift Books for years.

The local city library uses this Kanopy service . I have not used it but it seems you can stream it to your pc, tablet, Roku , etc and watch. You need a library card.
Amelie (French, subtitled)
The Dinner Game (French, subtitled)
Remember the Titans
Mom and Dad Save the World
I Married an Axe Murderer
Stay Tuned
Austin Powers
You also might try Mystery Science Theater 3000 and their many spoofs.
The French film “Eiffel” wasn’t bad. The documentary about building his tower was even better. No silly love story to distract from the engineering.
I wish I could remember others, but I only remember the ones I’ve just seen.
The Martian is an outstanding movie that satisfies your ceiteria.
Murder My Sweet
Or old, but a good movie:
Where the Crawdads Sing
Not old, but a good movie:
Where the Crawdads Sing
The World’s Fastest Indian.
Based on a true story, and it’s not really a “motorcycle movie.”
It’s a chick flick for guys.
