Lindsey Austen received an alert that a drone was approaching her home in Richmond on Monday – prompting her to excitedly run outside to see it.
Austen told Storyful it was the first time one of her packages had been dropped off by the flying robot. She began recording before the drop-off turned out to be a total disaster.
Footage showed the drone hovering high above her pool in her backyard, making tons of noise as the propellers kept it in the air before a hatch opened, releasing her package.
'Oh my god,' Austen said in shock.
The drone dropped her fairly large Amazon box into her pool, plunging it into the water. The faux pas prompted her to let out an expletive.
'I don't think I'll be wanting any more drone deliveries,' she told the outlet, adding that the delivery had left her shocked.
Amazon prompts users to pick a safe delivery site, suggesting customers select a drop-off location at least 10 feet away from people, pets, vehicles and objects taller than 5 feet.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Amazon for comment.
Users on X shared several concerns after watching Austen's disappointing experience with the futuristic delivery system.
'There is no possible way that's going to be mass adopted. Not because it's not cool, but because of how loud it is,' one person wrote.
Another penned: 'I'm more confused about why it's dropping deliveries off from so high in the air.'
'To be fair, if it didn't land in the pool it might be in 15 pieces after being dropped from that height,' a third added.
Amazon began using drone delivery in 2022 and plans to roll out the delivery system to 500 cities in the US by the end of this year.

Personally I think life was better Pre-Amazon.
The roads in my area are frequently blocked by Amazon, Walmart, FedEx and so on, parked on the road with their flashers on.
Blocking trafic.
And as my area is hilly trying to pass these trucks can be hazardous. Traffic coming the other way will be doing 45 MPH at minimum.
These trucks will be parked on the road even if the delivery address has a driveway. Unless the driveway is exceptionally long.
With the holiday season just two months away I am already seeing an uptick in the number of these trucks on the road.
Once Christmas season is in full flush it will become very dangerous to be on the road.
I can’t wait for drone delivery out here in the sticks. My dogs already chase the delivery trucks that drive down the highway regardless whether they are making a delivery or just driving by 60mph. Drones will be even more fun and their noise will give the dogs a heads up that there might be something to tear apart down to molecular level.
Had she NOT been home to retrieve it, how long can cardboard boxes float?

It’s still not cool were she not home and watching it could have been floating for hours. Eventually sinking.
Last Saturday my wife and I were sitting out on the lawn and started talking about the SOAKER hose that we had around the new fruit trees.
I said I think we should get an 8’ one. The 6’ is too short.
Within 2 minutes she ordered it on her phone. She has an Amazon Prime account. It was delivered to our house free on charge/no shipping in the countryside of NH within 20 hours. ON A SUNDAY.
I think it is awesome.
Remind me to never take an Amazon drone taxi.

I know people that have filled their homes with extraneous merch because of Amazon. Filled their garage with toilet paper, paper towels and other consumables because they are on a auto order plan. It is not a great development for our society IMO.
If I was a Greenie I would be upset at the amount of carbon based fuels that these truck expend. My wife orders from Amazon and has had three trucks from them deliver in the same day. One order for two of an item came on two separate delivery trucks. I on the other hand will not order from Amazon and will go to the store instead. I only order for delivery if I can't get something local. That is mostly electronics parts which are hard to source locally.
Amazon gives a choice of where to deliver the package. I can get deliveries to my front porch, my garage, or a neighborhood pharmacy with lockers.

Gotta say, that’s a beautiful pool.
Don’t really care about the drone or package.
I still give plenty of business to my locally owned ACE hardware store. However, I give less business now to the big box stores. IF I NEVER step foot into another Walmart, Target, Home Depot or Lowes I would be okay with that.

I love home delivery services.
It means I don’t have to leave the house and go out on those dangerous roads you mention.
Amazon brings me household items, etc. Petsmart brings my dog food and treats on timed subscriptions. I don’t have to wrestle the heavy bags around the store and into and out of the truck.
About the only thing we need to routinely go out for are doctor appointments, and even half of those are Telemed.
Groceries can even be delivered, but I like to pick out my produce.
All good for us! Maybe I’m an undiagnosed agorophobe?
