A US Air Force flight en route to Antarctica was forced to return to New Zealand after receiving a warning of "potentially hazardous" space activity. The alert was confirmed by New Zealand authorities on Wednesday.
New Zealand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued the warning after being informed by Russia’s State Air Traffic Management Corporation, which led to the decision to turn the flight back. The warning was disseminated through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
The flight, originally departing from Christchurch, New Zealand, is a part of the annual Winter Fly-in (WINFLY) operation, which connects Christchurch with Antarctic research facilities.
Impact of Russian Missile Launch on Air Travel The CAA explained that it was alerted by Russia's air traffic agency about a planned missile launch, which presented a risk to international airspace. The region potentially affected is within New Zealand's Oceanic Flight Information Region (FIR), a substantial area covering 11.6 square miles of airspace.

The New Zealand Oceanic Flight Information Region covers a 30-million-square-kilometer area that includes much of the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. It is responsible for directing aircraft in this region.

From another source:
“The flight was scheduled as a part of the U.S. Air Force’s winter fly season, which transports researchers and necessary equipment to Antarctica before the summer research season begins in the region. The aircraft is one flight that is scheduled annually to fly between Christchurch and both the U.S. and New Zealand’s research bases in Antarctica.”
Years ago, while in New Zealand,I met a marine biologist who was on her way home after having spent the winter in Antarctica (it was November, springtime in the Southern Hemisphere).I think I recall her saying that nothing goes in or out during the winter.
They say “Russian space activity” but I think it’s really the Nazi space base in Antarctica that is the real concern.
Idk what was the Russian activity but, skimming the article, the flight warning/restriction seems akin to SpaceX & the FAA clearing traffic from their flight launch and land corridors.
Maybe Russian space junk was entering the airspace.
“”potentially hazardous” space activity.””
That’s exactly what I thought - space junk....
She must be Horney as heck now
“it’s really the Nazi space base in Antarctica that is the real concern.”
Is that the one where the machinery runs to keep all the water from running out of the oceans?
With the earth being flat, giant pumping stations are need to keep all the water from running off
I dunno, plenty more men overwinter there than women. Maybe she was... Exhausted?
Hah, I just watched that yesterday.
Doesn't exist.
Russia has talked about a nuclear‑powered missile that could fly for extremely long periods — the 9M730 Burevestnik (SSC‑X‑9 “Skyfall”) — but there is no evidence of any Russian weapon that can orbit the Earth for months, change orbital planes, or maneuver from polar to equatorial orbit. The only real nuclear‑powered Russian missile project is the Burevestnik, and it is not an orbital vehicle. It is a low‑altitude cruise missile concept.
We have concepts, too. Stop Russia wanking.
Thanks, I also read that they’re testing that missile. Pretty damn scary.
