Frank Beard, the longtime drummer for legendary rock band ZZ Top, has died ... TMZ has learned.

According to the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner Frank passed away on August 17 at his Texas ranch with family by his side after a stay in hospice. A cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.

ZZ Top founder Billy F. Gibbons released a statement on his passing saying, “Today, Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a great and true son of Texas. His signature backbeat was key to keeping ZZ on top. The band of which he was part for six decades is going to keep on keeping on as he had wished.”

Just not the iconic ZZ Top style.

A scraggly patch of facial Spanish moss.

Yes. RIP Frank Beard.

I got invited to their room in Little Rock once. They had half of the top floor in the hotel a bunch of us were staying in.

Boy they could party. Around 1976.

Wow, I just started listening to one of their greatest hits albums in my car the other day, and now this.

They had an amazing knack for turning authentic blues based playing into ultra catchy pop rock.

Most of the famous people in Rock are getting up there in age now, so deaths are to be expected ... j/s Still, 77 is pretty good for someone living that lifestyle!!

Keith Richards (Rolling Stones) is absolute truth of "Life after Death." He is 83 now and still rocking. The Grim Reaper liked his music so did not collect the body. Rock on Keith!

He passed in 2021. Duck Commander Phil Robertson officiated his funeral. Truth not making that up.

Wow! That guy is good!

He made it look passionate and natural. You could tell he was completely serious, yet, perfect in about every way.

I could grow a beard, but after day 10, it’s drives me insane! I start to hate the feeling in bed, in the shower, when I eat, when I sweat in the heat, etc. Hell for me will be a requirement to grow a beard.

Easy peasy. Don't bathe, don't sleep, don't eat, don't wash your clothes. That's what I do. ;)

I use a WWII style double-edged safety razor. And a wonderful electric heated dispenser for my Barbasol.

Hot cloth on the face, warm shave cream, and a sharp razor. It's like a 30-minute spa day in the morning. Slap a little spiced lotion on the face and I'm good for the day.

One of my favorite bands. So glad I got to see them live in concert.

Saw them in 1977 at Cincinnati Riverfront Coliseum on their Worldwide Texas Tour. This was before they went viral with the Eliminator album. Best concert I ever attended.
