Besides the fact that visitation or contact are highly unlikely, this would seem like a silly waste of time.
We’ve come a long way from the ‘Brookings Report’. I don’t think learning that we’re ‘not alone’ is going to rattle many people today.
I will have no probs w/aliens as long as they speak English.
To which I would ask for weapons and a small maneuverable vehicle to help me out w/rush hour.
Would also be a good idea to ask for invisibility screens to escape Flock cameras, etc..
Now that I think about it, in addition to English, I hope there are not more than two sexes and the female one needs to be pretty hot.
If the aliens are small and ugly, English speaking or not, I will just stomp on them.

Case 1: If there are aliens who possess the technology to cross interstellar space quickly and have neurologically/telepathically control us, and Earth's bio-habitat poses no challenge to them, then we are basically earthworms on the galactic scale of life. Consequence of disclosure: Complete societal meltdown. Religion, Economy, you name it.
Case 2: If there are aliens, but they are lab grown after the robot ships that delivered their DNA to earth took millennia and have been around for millennia after being grown/genetically engineered to survive our bio habitat. Then we are like dogs or (my favorite) unruly cats to them. Consequence of disclosure: Partial societal meltdown. Religion, Economy, you name it. Although some are comfortable being pets or exhibits in a zoo.
Case 3: If they are not aliens but interdimensionals. And they have the capacity to neurologically/telepathically control us, as one finds in the many reports, then we are sitting ducks to invisible forces around us. Consequence of disclosure: Complete societal meltdown. Religion, Economy, you name it.
Case 4: Demons who have the power to neurologically/telepathically control us, as one finds in the many reports, then we are sitting ducks to invisible forces around us. Consequence of disclosure: Complete societal meltdown for most. People flock to religion. Economy still craters. Who in power can you trust?
Case 5: There are no aliens or demons, and this is all disinformation on the part of government to cover up black programs which are so far advanced of anything know to man that if basically represents a breakaway civilization. Consequence of disclosure: Distrust in any and all of government. Who really are our masters?
Case 6: Nobody know what the hell is going on. Consequence of disclosure: Nobody has a nail to hang their fears on and nobody is getting killed in large numbers, so...status quo?
You left off the most obvious one.
The aliens are cyber-beings. They will rule humanity by being disguised as a helpful global AI database. A “one stop shop” that people will be happy to tie their entire lives into.

Warmed over Brookings report. I’m more worried about scientists freaking out than religious types. They’ve lived their whole lives convinced they are the center of the universe and that life happened “quite by accident.”

Solid taxonomy, but there’s a case missing, and it’s not a variant of the ones you listed.
You’ve got physical aliens, interdimensionals, demons, black-tech, and unknown. Every one is either a secular ontology or a folk-demon stub. What’s absent is the Heiser frame: a populated unseen realm of fallen and unfallen spiritual beings, operating under a fixed Cosmic Law.
That’s not your Case 4. “Demons” flattens it into a jump-scare. The actual framework (see Heiser’s Unseen Realm, Enoch I, and The Ascension of Isaiah) is a whole cosmology — a ranked order with delegated authority, lawful boundaries on how it interacts with the human realm, and a moral structure the other cases don’t have. It’s the one possibility where the beings aren’t random visitors but part of an ordered system that predates us and operates by rules.
You didn’t weigh it and set it aside. The category wasn’t on the board.

LOL. Plenty of people who believe in God also believe in the possibility of other intelligent life in the Universe, and it doesn’t affect their faith.
If that’s the assumption of the ‘mental health advocates’, they don’t know much about people of faith. Maybe they think the most fundamental of ‘Fundies’ represent all of us.
