A Texas high school teacher was reduced to tears and broke down in front of his class when he realized the seniors he was teaching couldn’t complete a writing exercise.
Darius Williams, a teacher for Houston Independent School District’s Wheatley High School, said he couldn’t get through the first class of the second day of school before his students’ poor literacy skills were too much for him.
“I just finished a three-hour class, and I literally broke down in the middle of class,” Williams said in an Instagram video during his lunch break on Tuesday. Williams, a New Education System (NES) Career and Technical Education (CTE) staffer, said he gave his class full of seniors two paragraphs to read and asked them to complete another sentence he had practically filled out for them, but was left stunned when they couldn’t finish the task.
“I basically completed the sentence for them, he said. “These are 17- and 18-year-old kids, and they couldn’t fill in four words. Four words!” exclaimed Williams.
“I gave them the scenario, we annotated together. I gave them the answers before we even had the problem and they couldn’t do it. I don’t know I simply don’t know where the problem is,” he said frustratingly.
“This is only day two, and I have seniors who simply cannot read and seniors who cannot write. They cannot write,” Williams cried out.
“Our young black men, our young brown men, our young black girls, and our young brown girls,” Williams said as he began to sob before ending the video.

My son has been a teacher in private schools for 35 years. I’m guessing he wouldn’t last a week in the average public school; he’d be shocked and disgusted by the public “educational” system.
The teacher needs to ask himself the question: “For these students, in the lives they live, do they even need to be able to read?”
Actually, answering that would depress him even more.
It is mostly NOT the teachers...it is the Administration and Teachers Union. Until the reward is not how many butts in seats, but how many can legitimately pass a reading, writing, arithmetic test, nothing will change.
My favorite valedictorian story was at the graduation of a niece in an almost all white regional high school in rural Kentucky.
The huge gymnasium was packed with relatives and friends of the graduates.
A teacher came up to the microphone and introduced the valedictorian. The teacher explained that they had seen a preview of the valedictorian’s speech and were very impressed with her creative ideas—and encouraged us to listen carefully to the wisdom this brilliant young lady had to share with us.
The speech began:
“If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

I used to think that, but it's not true. Perhaps 10% of teachers a good ones, but most are indoctrinated into the union leftist mentality and do not provide a good work product or good hard work in general - which is why public schools are failing for 40 years.

Yes, the problem starts in early elementary school. Democrats would scream racism if a black kid was made to repeat a grade, and so they just pass them on.
But probably the bigger problem is that education is not important to many black parents. "Black parents". Pffffft. Many, many black kids don't have a father in the family.
Sadly, the problem is not limited to black families in the ghettos.

The teacher specifically states it’s black and brown students.

Yes, it has, but in those days those remedial college classes had students who were really at the 7th-8th grade levels; now they're at the 3rd-4th grade level. The problem has gotten worse.
The students are idiots. Their parents got just what they wanted: illiterate children.
The parents (or more than likely parent) are probably illiterate as well. That would explain why there is no support at home.

The problem is it is exactly this culture they inundate the teachers with and bombard them with this indoctrination, few can survive and escape the mentality.

A lot. I taught 11th and 12th grade for most of my 33 years.
Teachers face huge repercussions for failing students - in some districts it is prohibited now to fail students - if students fail YOU are called onto the carpet to explain why YOU didn’t teach the kids, you are the failure, never the students who don’t bother to study, do homework, open the textbook, show up on time or not, disrupt the class, etc. Their parents are never held accountable.
Easier for a teacher to give them a “D” (which is passing) and pass them along. I saw the results in the 11th grade, these students had been passed through. One of many reasons I switched to teaching Art and electives.
You’d be surprised at how many teachers are actually conservatives - and this is in California. I worked at several different schools across three school districts over my career - from rich to poor. There are many lefty teachers, especially younger teachers fresh out of lefty institutions.
Many older ones are conservative - but kept it hidden, of course - workers with pensions and credentials we did not wish to jeopardize. I witnessed plenty of repercussions against teachers the admin didn’t like - given the worst classes, worst schedules or transferred to difficult schools.
