Earlier I posted about Kroger short-weighing a package of chicken I bought. Jimmy Wrigg has a number of videos about Walmart short weighing beef and chicken. Well, he's back and the prepackage bacon 1lb packages are a much as 2.5oz short of the required 16oz target. Evidently, the FDA allows a 1oz variation, but that should be randomly distributed if it's truly and error, with some packages with more that 16oz and some within 1oz less. Jimmy has yet to find one that's over by an ounce.
Solution: weigh the package before you buy it.

Wal-Mart isn’t weighing the packages. The vendors are.
Great Value is Walmart's store brand. If they aren't doing QC checks, it's on Walmart.
Not only that, but Safeway sells shrimp with the label saying 26 shrimp but there’s only 18 in the package.
Well it does Sell Bacon ,LOL
We bought a 12 pack of walmart hot dogs and it only had 10! And their great value buns are just as bad. And don’t get me started on their toilet paper - big ripoff hidden in every pack for you.
I am a hardcore market capitalist, not absolutist free market as that always leads to abuses.
Given that it is practically an axiom all corporations are corrupt. They will always work to their own selfish interests.
That is why a completely free market fails and at least some regulation is needed in a capitalist society.
OK for Great Value and other store brands then yes.
There are 2 kinds of Walmart white sandwich bread. One is good and one is not (to me at least). I buy the one that says “made with love”. Weird!
Two or three other stories on wrong amounts in packages. I wonder if this is like the first revelation of Minnesota fraudsters? More and more to come?
I noticed honest ones say “approximately XX in package.”
I used to think “who’s going to hold them to being exact?”

Wasn’t there a scandal about how much gas came out of the pump to make an alleged “gallon”? I vaguely remember.
We have had the same problem with Costco bacon. We usually buy the 4-packs of 1-pound sliced bacon. Often every package is 2 or 3 ounces short.

Gas pumps are allowed a tolerance.
But today’s pumps are so good that they can live on the short end of the tolerance.
Maybe I should pay using the ‘short end’ of the dollar.

Meanwhile ... when I fill my 5 US gallon gas cans to the fill mark, the pump reads 5 gallons. So I guess they're ripping me off ...
Looks like all is well.
There used to be a rumor in early 1990s that gas stations were rigging their pumps to under-pump, but then supposedly at 5-gallon increments they'd be right on for inspectors. I had to point out to my less-than-mathematically-astute buddies that their rumor was mathematically impossible. There's no way to under-disperse up to 4.99 gallons on the meter then all of the sudden you have magically dispersed 5.00 gallons both from the nozzle and on the meter.
Lots of Bacon packs today are only 12 oz.
Less bacon, same price, to avoid a per package “price increase”.
The 1lb. pack is nearly a thing of history.
One assumption of free market capitalism is that information is free. It is not. If it were, buyers would leave companies that sort-weigh their product in favor of those who don’t. Alas, that is not the case in “real life”. Indeed, the purpose of this post is to provide that information to those who don’t know they are being cheated. The market will punish Walmart to some degree. We just don’t know by how much.
