Central Fire District of Santa Cruz rescued a seagull Tuesday evening after it became tangled in a wire that was caught in a tree at Black's Beach.

Viewer video from Steven Hamm shows Santa Cruz Central Fire firefighters using a ladder truck with an aerial platform to reach the bird, which was perched high above the beach.

Two firefighters can be seen carefully cutting the line wrapped around one of the seagull's legs before safely freeing the bird. As the bird is freed, cheers and applause can be heard from people watching the rescue below.

Amy Redfeather with Native Animal Rescue said one of the organization's rescuers was waiting at the scene and retrieved the seagull after firefighters freed it. The bird was then taken to the organization's rescue center for rehabilitation.

Redfeather said the seagull is doing well.

Redfeather added that Native Animal Rescue regularly coordinates wildlife rescues in the area and provides rehabilitation for injured animals.

It's unclear how long the seagull had been trapped or what type of line it was entangled in.

They spent $5,000 saving a flying rat that will now resume bombing tourists on the Boardwalk.

You don’t think that seagull will grant them three wishes?

In parts of the Metro Detroit area we see them as what White Castle hamburgers are really made of.

Somehow, I don’t think that department would have turned out if that had been a MAGA supporter caught in those wires,,,,,

“Firefighters Free Seagull Tangled in Wire High Above Santa Cruz Beach”. I think Neil Diamond wrote a song about a seagull.

Vicious scavengers and killer of smaller birds.

Well, I guess it’s good practice/training for something else, if they had nothing better to do...
