Walmart Under-weighs Meat Products

Prepackage meat products are often under the weight marked on the package. Not only is the weight short, they put a thick absorbent pad under the product. That wad of material can weigh over a half pound by itself.

Why would I need to watch as video of something I did 50x a day for two summers?

Tare weight (packaging) is deducted, leaving net weight.

The scale gets a tare weight entry, which is deducted from the total.

Buying at the deli is the best way to buy meat since the chance of being mis-weighed while you’re watching is probably less. I think the “tubes” of hamburger are correctly weighed.

That’s with the water that has leeched out of the meat. Some vendor do inject water into their meats and say “Water added” on the packaging. If you weigh the meat and the pad, you get an idea of the amount of water since the pad weighs less than an ounce.

Motels don’t say anything about their mattresses, but when a meat product is labeled with its weight, I think I should expect that to be the weight at Walmart or any other grocery store.

What I meant was the packing material plus the water.

Yickkk ... who even buys any meat product at Walmart??

Even their so-called grass fed beef looks bad.

Not even then. One pound is a lot of water. Meat is weighed AFTER tare is applied to a scale. That is a law that is carefully enforced.

Because you have no clue no matter how many times you did it.

Oh OK. You probably buy crap packaged meat anyway. You deserve to get screwed. (Even though you are not. Mislabeling packaged meat is against the law in most states. My God, every city has a weights and measurements department. Their fines can be crazy.)

But yeah, I just stoopid cuz I don’t believe TikTock. I mean, if its on the internet….it HAS to be true.

My God, every city has a weights and measurements

They also have laws against burglary, bank robbery, speeding and many other things but people still do them.

If the measure was only off by 1% or 2% that is acceptable but 20% or 30% is fraud. Placing the blame on the packager is an easy out but whoever is buying should at least check what they are buying for correct weights, maybe someone should at least check and see what the buyer is actually paying for, actual weight or labeled weight. It is an industry wide problem not just meat.

One YouTuber forced a Walmart store to remove all their prepackaged ham for being way under weight. That is just one store. It is just the modern version of the butchers thumb on the scale only you can't just change butchers. If it were just honest mistakes then everything would usually deliver more than the stated weight, to avoid the fine, it doesn't because the fine is less than the profit.

Your shallow insults have no bearing on facts that you continue to be willfully ignorant of.

If you are buying your meat at Walmart, you are by definition getting screwed.

Find a better source for the most important part of your food.

So screw all the Walmart shoppers, sound right from you. I buy my meat at Costco who it turns out actually delivers what the label says. However most of the packaged items in the store did not but I am sure they met minimum requirements, apparently none of the prepackaged items delivered more than required all were under by the allowed amount.

Your diversion of the topic avoids the issue of you being willfully ignorant of facts claiming stupid Walmart shoppers deserve to be screwed over because they are stupid. How about checking weights on some of the items you buy at whatever store millionaires shop at, maybe you will find out something you don't know.

You ignore that the law says what they are doing is wrong. Go to the cops/weights and measure guys. They will take care of it. Not ever government official is corrupt.

I don’t know what more you want from me? To applaud you? For buying meat from Walmart? That’s not gonna happen. Costco is marginally better…but not much.
