The sale of gaming giant Electronic Arts (EA) for $55bn (Β£41bn) to a group of buyers including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has been finalised.
The American company is known for making and publishing best-selling games such as EA FC, formerly known as Fifa, The Sims and Mass Effect.
The investors, who include Affinity Partners - led by President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner - are taking EA private, meaning all of its public shares will be purchased and it will no longer be traded on a stock exchange.
It is thought to be the largest leveraged buyout in history, meaning a significant part of it is paid for with borrowed money, which the company will have to pay back.
This is because as well as the $36bn it has already put into the deal, PIF needs to borrow $20bn from investment bankers JPMorgan to close it, with the business taking on the debt.

I used to play their games, a long time back.
They ruined Bioware.

Maxxis, and Origin too. They released a Battlefront game in which you could play as a black woman fighting for the Kaiser in World War 1. EA ruined the legacy of the X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter games with that abomination Star Wars: Squadrons. EA has been horrible for a couple of decades now.
Hope they drive it into the ground. Then maybe Richard Garriot can get Ultima back
Now this should be interesting. Most gaming companies have become cesspools of Wokeness. When you pick a character, you get to decide whether the character is transgender and even if the character has “top surgery” scars along with several dozen other Woke options. Let’s see if that is in line with Saudi values, and pass the popcorn at the absolute fit the gaming developers will throw when the Saudis put a stop to all that BS.
Mebbe some hard-nosed oil tycoons can revive this turd. It went woke ages ago.
