Susan Collins Votes Aye on Todd Blanche for Deputy Attorney General 3/5/25
Senate.gov ^

To Susan Collins, Todd Blanche was apparently perfectly ok to be DEPUTY Attorney General.

But not ATTORNEY GENERAL.

Probably because she knew he would be thwarted by pantywaist Pam Bondi (the latest Jeff Sessions or Bill Barr).

So she's now voting Nay.

While she voted Aye on Merrick Garland.

Susan Collins only wrings her hands over REPUBLICAN nominees.

Of course she did. He’s a fellow Democrat in Democrat clothing.

If it helps us to keep our majority in the Senate in 2027, good on her. I’m sure they let her vote know because they have the votes. Otherwise you people are so stupid politically. It’s pathetic.

Actually November is looming large in Collins's mind.

She’ll skate to a win. Other side-too disorganized. You think the voters will carry her opponent for the sake of the party? Do they care about the big picture outside Maine?

“Actually November is looming large in Collins’s mind.”

Yes, she’s at the same time portraying herself as a nice middle-of-the-road Senator, so she can reelected.

There may be more to this than appears at first glance.<p

She is locked in a very tight race for that Senate seat. This is the kind of vote that may let her argue independence from Trump in a state where he isn’t popular. And if Thune knows he has the votes to confirm, he may have told her she can vote no.

So she's now voting Nay.

Title says her vote is Aye. further in, it says she's voting Nay. So which is it?

Ah, crap. Sorry about that. Now I see what was right there in front of my stupid face — i.e., that she voted Aye on him for Deputy AG.

She voted aye for deputy attorney general in 2025. Now she’s voting Nay for attorney general.

Same guy, one year later, one position up.

Yep. That’s the way DC works.

When will people discover that the Attorney General advises the President in legal matters in addition to his regular role .

Come on Mainers, why can’t you find people better than Collins, rapists, incestuous folks, communists, and socialists to run for for office?

I’ve let my former state of VA and current NC slip badly in politics, but you guys are crazy.

To clarify, the Senate has not yet voted on Todd Blanche’s nomination. The question is do the Republicans need her vote? It is really annoying when people post misleading threads.

Portland Press Herald

Susan Collins says she won’t vote to confirm Trump’s pick for attorney general
Maine’s Republican senator said Todd Blanche ‘has taken several actions that have further eroded’ the DOJ’s ‘independence.’
8/4/2026

Drew Johnson, Staff Writer

Sen. Susan Collins announced on Tuesday that she does not intend to vote for President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Justice.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-10 along party lines in support of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to formally take the position on Tuesday, clearing the way for a Senate vote, potentially later this week.

Collins, a Republican, said she has “carefully reviewed” Blanche’s qualifications.

“While I believe Mr. Blanche is a capable lawyer, the Department of Justice has become increasingly political,” Collins said in a statement on Tuesday. “Mr. Blanche has taken several actions that have further eroded the department’s independence, and that is the basis for my vote to oppose his confirmation.”

The link takes you to the Senate roll call vote last year. Collins voted aye for Blanche as deputy attorney general last year, and now she’s voting Nay for Blanche for attorney general.
