Most people don’t understand that, for leftists, Islam offers more than just a common totalitarian enemy in the war against the West.
Yesterday, the barrier between Spain and Morocco broke, as up to 60,000 young, military-aged Muslim men swam from Morocco past the border at Ceuta and Melilla into Spain. The incentives were twofold.
The first was that Pedro Sánchez, Spain’s hard-socialist president, announced that illegal aliens in Spain who applied for legal status would receive it. The second was that the leftist Supreme Court announced that, while those who entered Spain over a land border could instantly be turned away, those who entered through a waterway would instantly be registered as asylum seekers, entitled to a full hearing. Spain’s geography and the shared coastline between Morocco, Ceuta, and Melilla made the outcome obvious.
We also know why Spain’s leftists are happy to welcome Muslims: As leftists, they hate their national heritage and everything it stands for. When Spain parted ways with its Catholic past, it did what leftist nations do when they abandon the Biblical faiths: It stopped having children. Its birthrate is almost half the rate needed for a nation to maintain its population, let alone grow.
Spain and Islam also share a common cause: hatred for America and Israel, specifically, and the West, generally. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, and all that.
But President Sanchez unwittingly hit upon one other reason the left loves Islam, and that’s Islam’s powerful and compatible spiritual essence. Spirituality and leftism? That sounds ridiculous, but give me a minute to make my case.
This idea came from a New York Times op-ed in which President Sanchez argued for allowing unlimited numbers of illegal aliens from across the Muslim world:

The left instinctively sides with evil.
There was a time when I thought I’d move to Spain. That was then, this is now.
Because the left IS evil.
Any so-called religion that praises a pedophile who married his 13-year-old cousin and regards all those who are not muslims as “infidels”, and mutilate their daughters is not a religion imho, more like an evil cult, and they breed like rats.

The experience of the Enlightenment opened the way for an appreciation of science. The Christian faith brings science into our world, extends it, invests it with spiritual meaning and keeps us safe from its excesses. The Western Christian world has for the most part become peaceful, prosperous, generous and benign.
Why then do so many opt for Islam over Christianity when Islam remains a seventh century cult dripping with blood, misery, despair and ignorance? Why are Muslims more ardent in their faith than Christians?
Oddly, both Christianity and Islam offer cosmic promises that are conditioned on only one commitment from the initiate: surrender.
But one obviously would respond: why would initiates to Islam be more ardent than Christians? Christians were persuaded by God in a rational world where the supplicant was accorded the absolute right of choice. Islam, from the very beginning was spread by the sword. Why would a convert to Islam who has done so only to save his life be more conscientious in his faith than a Christian?
First, I think the author misses the point of the extraordinary power, emotional, spiritual, and psychological, of the phenomenon of surrender. The individual who undergoes that epiphany enters a new world that makes sense to him. Christianity is rational, benign and wholesome, but Islam is hardly those things except in practical instructions on a very basic level leading to a less dissolute life but Islam, across the board, rationalizes terrible sins and results in universal misery.
An oddity of the phenomenon of surrender is that it is of little matter how the convert comes to the conversion, whether by rational thought, persuasion, action of the Holy Spirit, or by the sword. The convert's epiphany transports him into a new world where he belongs, where he is part of a group, where the world now makes sense because he has accepted the deal.
The power of this new worldview should not be underestimated. The physical courage that was endowed among the early Christians enabled them to withstand the most terrifying and excruciating torture as they kept the faith to the end. A Christian convert's faith produces good works.
Islam produces evil works, yet today the power of the cult of Islam over its subjects is not to be denied. Moreover, because Islam has evaded the experience of the Enlightenment, it has preserved a closed loop that is impervious to the logic and rationality of the world. This, thank heaven, is contrary to the Christian experience.
So the Muslim, abiding in a bubble that is emotional, spiritual, fraternal and psychological, can happily exist in a world of violence and cruelty without a psychological breakdown.
The very factors that make Christianity benign and wholesome render it vulnerable to pesky searching questioning of its validity. When a Christian is charged to "pick up his cross and follow," he is called to a surrender to God, but a God who, by definition, is benign. The Christian surrenders his ego but not his intellect. Christianity calls on the Christian to follow a faith that is valid only if its "fruits" are benign. The distinction with Islam could not be more vivid.
The article attempts to answer the question why leftists accommodate themselves to Islam. I think the answer is that leftists are psychological pilgrims suffering more than most from the ego inflation that afflicts all of us to some degree and who are vulnerable to the seduction of Islam for the reasons I've outlined above.
Well said. I believe in Islam it is all about power. The leaders reap the benefits and the followers pay. Similiar to wolves and sheep.
Islam appeals to the basest instincts and literally commands its adherents to conquer, rape and enslave those who won't comply and blindly follow without question.

The left loves to promote things that are different, obscure & minimal in numbers. Islam in the United States fits all three categories.
If the left is being seduced by Islam, they’re attaching themselves to a loser with very little growth potential in the United States.
Secularism & Christianity will remain dominant in this country for a very long time.
