The first requirement to be a good scientist is that you can observe the real world, reflect upon it, offer some hypothesis purporting to be of general validity and then collect evidence for and against the hypothesis to reach a conclusion. You know like people seem to fall into two classes based upon differentiating common characteristics which we call by convention male and female. We then observe a number of other differentiating traits. You can observe that jumping off of a cliff leads to being dead. Such mental acuity leads to survival and further propagation of the species.
