Longtime New Yorkers fume after being hit with massive pied-à-terre tax bills: ‘Is this a witch hunt?’
New Yorkers were seething Tuesday after Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration alerted them they’d be on the hook for the state’s new pied-à-terre tax — which was explicitly sold as a levy targeting wealthy owners of luxury second homes.
Longtime residents — some who have called the Big Apple home for decades and own a single abode in the city — told The Post they were shocked to get hit with five-figure tax bills they believe were mistakenly mailed out, and are now being forced to navigate a bureaucratic labyrinth to prove it.
“Whoever’s behind this, who I can only assume is the mayor, didn’t take the 30 seconds to research,” said Karen Young, president and founder of New York and Paris-based beauty marketing company The Young Group, who has lived in New York since 1972.

“why are you picking on us?”….That had to be the most obtuse, naive complaint ever.
It must be pretty disheartening for those who think of themselves as New Yorkers born and bred, and to the bone, and then find out they are being identified as the ‘other’ in their own hometown.
New Yorkers deserve what they get. Trouble is they always seem to figure out a way for us to pay for their antics.
It must be nice to elect a politician who actually does the things he said he was going to do on the campaign trail.

I read the whole article. The whiners were about what I expected. Most of them have probably voted democrat since they were old enough to vote. It was always the plan to gig these f’n idiots but someone in the administration sent out the notices a coupla years too soon. Ooopsie. No matter. They’re still hosed. Ya get what ya wanted!

This is a copy of my 2025 NYC income tax and this photocopy shows an image of the check used to pay the tax.
Dozens of people on X have said they were listed and got threatening letters even though: (1) It is their PRIMARY (and only) residence, and (2) It is worth $1 million or so, not the $5+ million supposedly required under the PaT tax.
