Young Saudi Prince died after ingesting lethal cocktail of drugs in London hotel, inquest hears

The Saudi Prince who died in a luxurious London hotel had ingested a huge cocktail of drugs and alcohol, causing him to suffer cardiac arrest, an inquest ruled Thursday.

Abdullah bin Fahad bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Jalawi al Saud, 29, was almost three times the drink-drive limit and had traces of the party drug gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and Xanax in his system, an inquest at a London coroner’s court heard, according to The Telegraph.

His blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.222%. The legal limit in the UK is 0.08%.

The prince was found in his bathroom by a maid at the approximately $800-per-night Marriott Hotel in swanky Kensington, London, on November 25 last year.

Paramedics were unable to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The court also heard that just three months prior to his death, al Saud was an inpatient at the Priory Clinic in Roehampton, where a single week’s stay can cost up to $47,000.

Dr. Victoria Chamorro, a consultant psychiatrist, said in a statement that he had “engaged well” with his detox treatment at the Priory, which “proceeded without physical side effects,” The Telegraph reported.

He was there to detox from alcohol, benzodiazepines and the anti-anxiety drug pregabalin, the outlet noted.

“He was supportive and kind to his peers, making friends,” Chamorro said.

“He was assessed as having symptoms of low mood and anxiety on admission,” she wrote.

“When he was discharged, he was considered not to be at risk of suicide. He was discharged with a friend but then failed to attend scheduled Zoom appointments.

“Nevertheless, there was no concern for him. He engaged well and completed his treatment,” she added.

Wonder how much, if any, to believe.

One thing is certain, however, that when the Middle East has something to hide, the UK is very accommodating.

We need to keep that in mind.

I guess all that money cannot buy happiness, but I’d love to be able to give it a try.

Talk about a two tier justice system...

Penalties for Drug and Alcohol Use in Saudi Arabia
In Saudi Arabia, both alcohol and illegal drugs are completely banned under Sharia law, and offenses carry severe penalties.

Alcohol Penalties
Zero tolerance: It is illegal to import, produce, sell, possess, or consume alcohol, or to arrive under the influence Tripbase.

Penalties: Arrest, long prison sentences, heavy fines, and deportation.

Re-entry ban: Convicted individuals often face a long-term or permanent ban from re-entering the country Tripbase.

Historical punishment: Public flogging was used for alcohol offenses, but the Supreme Court abolished it in 2020, replacing it with prison and/or fines Tripbase.
Drug Penalties
General rule: Possession, use, trafficking, and related offenses are treated as crimes against God and society Expatica+1.

Use/possession:

First-time offenders: Imprisonment of 6 months to 2 years for using narcotics like cannabis etqanlawfirm-sa.com.

Stricter cases: Employees, officials, or those under the influence at work face harsher sentences etqanlawfirm-sa.com.

Trafficking:

First-time: 5–15 years imprisonment etqanlawfirm-sa.com.

Repeat offenses: Can be death penalty Expatica+1.

Thresholds: Even small amounts can be prosecuted as trafficking if context supports it (e.g., packaging, cash, intent) www.mahamisaudi.com.

Treatment option: First-time users who voluntarily present themselves to an addiction treatment center before detection may avoid prosecution and enter rehab instead www.mahamisaudi.com.

Extra consequences: Permanent revocation of professional licenses (medical, legal, engineering, etc.) www.mahamisaudi.com.
Enforcement
Searches are not routine, but luggage inspections at ports are common Expatica.

Foreign embassies have limited power to intervene in drug cases Expatica.

Authorities make no exceptions for trafficking or repeat offenses Expatica.

Key takeaway: In Saudi Arabia, alcohol and drug offenses are taken extremely seriously, with penalties ranging from long prison terms and heavy fines to death for trafficking. Even first-time drug use can lead to significant imprisonment, and alcohol-related offenses carry deportation and re-entry bans.

Wait, aren’t muzzies so perfectly pure and pious that they never touch drugs or alcohol? Isn’t that why they hate us so? I bet they watch internet porn too.

“His blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.222%. The legal limit in the UK is 0.08%.” I thought muslims weren’t supposed to drink alcohol.

From the article: "The legal limit in the UK is 0.08%."

The guy wasn't driving a car, idiot. I feel pretty confident that it's not illegal to be over 0.08% in one's hotel room.
