Wisconsin knifeman Corey Ruiz killed by cops in caught-on-camera shooting was serial felon
The New York Post ^ | 07/23/2026 | Jared Downibg

The man who was killed by police in Madison, Wisconsin, a shocking caught-on-camera shooting — sparking protests — was a violent ex-con with a lengthy record, including for assaulting cops, The Post can reveal.

Corey Durrell Ruiz, 38, was identified by local officials and his family in social media posts.

State Rep. Shelia Stubbs, a Democrat, said Ruiz “should still be alive.” Brandi Grayson, the head of the Madison-based black community advocacy group Urban Triage, decried the shooting as, “Another black man is dead on a Madison street.”

Protesters have flooded the streets of Madison, Wisconsin, where the shooting happened and local black activists have seized on the killing.

But court and prison records show that Ruiz was not black, had only recently been released from prison, and had knifed a cop moments before he was fatally shot.

Ruiz was identified as non-black Hispanic in his prison booking records — despite activists and protestors comparing his death to the 2020 murder of George Floyd. Online court records show at least 25 criminal cases dating back to 2007. In 2021, he was convicted with battery of a law enforcement officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a law enfrorcement officer and retail theft in 2025. ***

had knifed a cop moments before he was fatally shot.

No kidding ... "knife" an armed man, and he and his armed buddies will likely end you.

In the great scheme of things, no one is gonna miss this guy very much. The world may be a safer place because of him hitting expiration status.

Last I heard is that there were some protests in Madison. I saw a pic online of some uncomfortable white baby boomers at a concert that was disrupted by the protestors.

Given the political leanings of the Madison area, these offended concert goers were likely all liberals too. I like the idea of them seeing what their voting has done. That is, if they can make the connection.

Many Latin Americans apparently don’t hold ‘blackness’ in high esteem. I suppose the same could be said for other ethnic groups. I wonder why that is?

I knew a guy in the Air Force who was from Puerto Rico. He looked as Black as this guy, but he always insisted he wasn't Black. Perhaps they have their own standard, apart from looks, of who qualifies for what.

I dated a woman from Haiti. She told me that the blacks would perjoratively call people from Haiti and the Dominican Republic “reds.”

Only a newspaper journalist would describe the shooting of this criminal who had just stabbed a cop as “shocking.” This tells you journalist live in another world. The rest of us know it is not shocking, but a well-deserved righteous shooting.

At what level of intelligence does it become abundantly clear that resisting or assaulting officers is not a good idea? I’m thinking it is about a 76 IQ.

I lived in Madison for 20 years and left there 31 years ago, before this problem became widespread. My explanation is that it was a community confronted with a problem it had never seen before and reacted according to the predominant liberal/progressive mindset there. It’s not just crime, but the failure of the public schools to deal with minority students. Initially they called it the “achievement gap”, but after finding it immutable, they stopped talking about it. In terms of crime, there have been a number of incidents like this, and the way the law enforcement folks get subjected to trial by ordeal really cannot help with retention or recruitment.

Very glad to have that vexing place in the rearview mirror.

I had a much shorter stay but overlapped your time there. Worked on the Emerald City Chronicle and Madcity Music Guide. I still miss the music scene and the Cookie Man on the State Street Mall.

The blacks exploit other blacks this way, only, useful or cared about when they can be a political wedge/race card for them.

Maybe if blacks dont want to get shot, because cops do NOT just shoot only black people (majority shot are white people), they need to stop doing violent behaviors that cause ANYONE to be shot.

Madison, Wisconsin, is as “liberal” as ever. When it comes time to “protect” racial minorities, the mob will jump in hair afire and with evil intent in mind to “avenge the injustice”, never once looking to determine the right or wrong of the situation.

The police force of Madison has their hands tied even before they advance into any kind of dispute in which a “minority” appears to be the perpetrator of the violence.

The police chief is a pussy. For him to allow some guy to grab the mic from him for FIFTEEN MINUTES DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE is unconscionable AND BALL-LESS.

Like a lot of other RAT-run states, Wisconsin has a Three Strikes Law, but these days, the Attorney Generals of those states refuse to enforce the law, and put these serial violent offenders behind bars for life. Josh Kaul, a member of the RAT party is the current A.G. of Wisconsin. He took office in 2018. And of course the Governor of Wisconsin, Tony Evers is another RAT.

But why? They should be glad. Oh,I’m sure he was in the church choir and loved his mother, and was planning to become an Architect. I would love to see his 3rd grade picture.
