Elon Musk Promises AI Odyssey Movie This Year, Says ‘I’m Down’ To Fund Mel Gibson’s $100 Million Version

In the span of about an hour, the X owner replied “I’m down” to a viral pitch asking him to hand Mel Gibson $100 million for a historically accurate adaptation in Homeric Greek.

Then he pinned a post vowing that his own AI video generator will produce a feature-length version of Homer’s epic before the year is out.

“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” Musk wrote.

The Pinned Pledge: A Grok-Made Odyssey By December

The Grok post is the concrete one. Musk was quote-tweeting the verified account Heavy Pulp, which had posted a Grok Imagine-generated dialogue scene from the Odyssey.

Are all actors going to be AI generated?

It takes a South African to speak the truth that Helen of Troy was not a Negress.

Might be some advantages to that!

I posted a reply about this the other day on FR, I was watching CNBC last week when they had two guys on as guests that had produced a full-length movie using nothing but AI tools including the actors that were all AI produced.

The cost to produce the AI movie was less than $100,000, the quality of the movie was amateurish, but it showed that with proper funding that would be far less than a Hollywood production could be done using only AI tools.

Now put Elon Musk’s money behind an AI produced movie and I think the movie would be Hollywood quality for significantly less money.

Hollywierd encourages this kind of Cultural Sabotage by denying the Oscars to any movie not following their approved rules of propaganda. I’ve enjoyed Mel Gibson’s movies and would especially be interested in seeing this hypothetical match-up .

Is AI confused about the difference between “pinned” (as in fastened or held by a pin) and “penned” (as in wrote). Or is it another casualty of phonics?

I just hope that if they remake it, they make Ulysses a trickster, sort of like a Bronze age Captain Kirk, not going around looking depressed like Matt Damon in today's Odyssey movie or even in the more recent remakes.

The best characters who portrayed Ulysses true to the books were Kirk Douglas in the 1954 movie or Sean Bean in the movie Troy.

Both these movies were not completely true to the books but they got the tone of the story correct.

“It takes a South African to speak the truth that Helen of Troy was not a Negress.”

You mean the AI actor will actually be “white-armed” and “lovely-haired”, as Homer described? What a concept.

Gibson’s productions seem to be excellent, I might see this one when it comes out.

Considering the rules of the Academy to have a certain ethnic / racial makeup re casting, I wonder if that applies if no actual human actors are involved.

If an AI movie is true to the original story with no woke involved, would it still be eligible for consideration for an award?

John Carter said, “A Mel Gibson Odyssey must be done using human actors, wearing real armor, shot on location.”

Who the hell does he think he is dictating what “MUST BE’ in other creators’ productions?! What would he do if someone decreed what MUST BE in HIS movies?

When it comes to the Oscars, I have four words...

One Battle After Another

MM, I seriously doubt Musk gives a rat's patootie about winning one of those booby prizes. :-)

MM, I'm an Edgar Rice Burroughs fan.

I am also one of the few people who actually enjoyed John Carter.

I'll cut the guy some slack. :-)

I agree. Someone with enough FU money to buy a country if he wanted to doesn’t give a sh!t. Gibson doesn’t care, either. I was thinking about this subject overall in the future, because it’s going to be a thing.

Probably AI will be given its own category. Or maybe they would be included under “Animated Feature Film”.

“White-Armed” was a formulaic epithet referring to status to indicate a person was of elite status and someone who never knew physical labor or had to venture outdoors. Odysseus was referred to as “black-skinned”, which also is also an epithet, not a physical description.

Homer, and Greek literature in general, wrote about status, family, origins etc... when describing people. Everything else is post interpretation.

Still, it’s none of his business how Musk and Gibson produce a movie ... how they “MUST” do, or not do, it. “Should” is a good word.

When you use AI, you should say so.
