I shared you opinion about Elliot Page until I actually saw the film. Christopher Nolan's Odyssey is a run-of-the-mill goofy monster/adventure film with a strong cast and nothing to do with Homer or the Bronze Age Greeks, and it really does not deserve all of the attention it is getting. How goofy is it? See my comments above (#5), to which I will add that Agamemnon appears dressed as Batman.
Surprisingly, the casting of Elliot Page as Sinion was inspired. It works very well. In Nolan's adaptation, Sinon is a brave but ineffectual warrior: a womanish young man of childish build and looking smaller in his armor, who was left behind to guard the horse. Odyessus knows that Sinon will be killed by the Trojans, and Sinon himself suspects it as well. Elliot fits that role perfectly.

When I saw them in the trailer, my reaction was that Krull had better special effects and costumes. And that was released in ~1981.

A woman doing stunt work with ‘the greatest arms’ in a big Hollywood production — fine. But the way these stories get hyped as some kind of breakthrough instead of just hiring the best person for the job shows how obsessed Hollywood still is with identity politics.
The best stuntman to portray Matt Damon's character fighting a 7 foot tall monster would be a short a stuntman as possible to make the "Monster" Stunt man look even bigger. Best person for the job happens to be a 5'4" woman.
She is actually less than 5 feet tall.

They needed a very small person for the photographic effect they were after, and Dalton was very short and had a physique that fit.
This is very different from casting a Black woman as Helen. It would have been very hard to find a male under 5 feet tall for their purposes.
