They watch it because they have no good sports to watch. Apparently a kickball and some matching t-shirts is the only sports equipment they have.
If they made soccer a contact sport like hockey it would be fun to watch.

Not in Europe were most of the most athletic skilled youth play soccer/football.
America makes up a very small percentage of the world’s population.

Because you don’t need any talent to do it. You just run around kicking it to each other and play keep away. Every few hours someone kicks it into the net.
I was being sarcastic in reply to some poster. Yes I have played soccer in high school. But my best game is golf, I can break my age now.

Ice hockey is very popular in the Nordic countries in Europe but then soccer is still more popular.

You need more talent to play soccer at a high level than you need to play American football.

Glad I’m not the only one who noticed the hyperbolic fervor to find anything to write about the WC that they could bend into anti-Trump, anti-Millei, anti-Argentina.
Neither team deserved that ****. The game isn’t inherently political but for the left everything is an occasion to insert nasty politics.
Euros are going to start dominating basketball too, because American players are all about dunking the ball and lack the skills in the fundamentals.
In Nuffle football we often have scores like 10-7 or 7-3, and then people get all cranky about how soccer has one or two goals.
“10-7” in football is two goals and one “didn’t really make it, but close enough to do the rough equivalent of a penalty kick but for a bit less than half of a real score.” Not any more thrilling score-wise than the kicking ball game. Basketball has lots of scoring and IMO sux. Squeak squeak squeak sweaty guys bump butts, ooo they threw a ball.
I’m not a fan of sportsball generally — prefer combat sports including shooting, archery, biathlon, karate and MMA, fencing, and also motorsport — but nice thing about the hockey and soccer-football vs. NFLball is they keep going without most of the time being waiting for people to get up, mumble at each other, and line up.
Also someone mentioned if people played like hockey. Obviously missed this tournament; I saw people hauled down, run over, allowing themselves to be run over to get a foul, even tiny Messi being double-body-checked by two 6’+ English guys (which was not a card, notably). Those were just the “not serious” fouls examples.
IMO FIFA could actually get a little tighter on the fouling (esp use of hands in doing so) and VERY much tighter on what they call “simulation” (all the drama made trying to get that foul call — cause the alternative is people running with pads on and the middle ground is IMO far too subjective, especially when it’s countries and national pride and injected politics. (e.g. people waving Fakistinean flags around, wtf does the Falklands have to do with a ball game, dingo from Spain mouthing about how he might go to prison if he doesn’t shake Trump’s hand, etc.)
Euros are better at basketball than Americans are at soccer.
Euros have won the world championship at basketball before.
America hasn’t even come close to winning the World Cup in soccer.

I'm so glad that Argentina lost. They fouled constantly during the match, and got away with most of it. And their behavior after the game had ended was disgusting, starting fights and later turning their backs on the Spanish team. They are cry babies and sore losers, in my opinion.
Even Messi, who didn't get involved in the fighting, was disappointing. He didn't start crying (yes, crying) until he saw that he was NOT being awarded Player of the Tournament.
Then the water works turned on. That shows me that he only cared about himself.
Argentina is a strong U.S. ally while Spain is a POS enemy of the United States.
The outcome disappointed me greatly for those reasons. Spain clearly was the better team, however.
At least France, England, Germany, Mexico and Canada lost.
Actually Spain dominated from start to finish. Argentina didn’t even get a shot on goal till the game was almost over. Yes a 1 -0 result was kinda boring and not a great finish to the tournament which featured some fantastic bouts in the knockout rounds.
