President Donald Trump declared Americans love both kinds of football now.
Trump celebrated the USA’s fresh crush on soccer and traded compliments with FIFA President Gianni Infantino during a glowing reception on Friday in New York City, in honor of the 2026 World Cup coming to a close.
“This guy, he came to me with this crazy idea [to host the World Cup]. I said ‘Are you crazy? We’re not a soccer country!'” Trump said after taking the microphone. “It turned out we were a soccer country, and I think it’s going to remain [one]."
His remark follows the World Cup enjoying record ratings in the States. The USA-Belgium game averaged 33.09 million viewers between Fox and Telemundo earlier this month, and the England-Mexico game a day earlier set an American record with 44 million viewers across the two channels.

Still sore about the $1 award but don’t get carried away.
Well, it is a sport where you don’t need too much padding, or a helmet.
It is a sport, like basketball, for women to watch men run around in shorts, and maybe get “a johnson peekaboo”, too.

And the fall down with a boo boo PLAY ACTING is CHRONIC in soccer and it's nauseating.
FRUSTRATING game that breeds FRUSTRATED/CRAZY fans and the vast majority of down-field momentum and goals are sheer LUCK.
American football is far more sensible but I suppose soccer will dominate this country once the turd worlders have killed off what's left of American culture.
With all due respect Mr President, you have it in reverse.
This World Cup has transformed foreign soccer fans into American-loving evangelists.
The fans from abroad were lied to by their government, their media, and their “betters” that Americans were bigoted, dumb, fatsos who shoot each other in broad daylight and drag their knuckles across blood-filled streets.
Instead, they see America is a warm nation of individuals that would give the shirt off our backs for tired, huddled masses yearning to breathe free, pay for meals, shoot guns, turn on the air conditioning, and shop at Wal-Mart and Costco.
Yeah, some of us have enjoyed a game or two and have even rooted for non-American teams. And if Haaland comes to American soccer, maybe more people will go to games.
But make no mistake…the losers in this World Cup are the politicians, the media, leftists, the WEF, and CFR-types. The winners is humanity. I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about something we can all relate to, something that is unquestionably, inescapably… American. I am referring, of course, to our great national pastime - baseball.
Imagine, a perfect, cloudless day. The sun is warm and welcoming. And on the horizon, they appear, like knights of yore, armed with bats of ash and hickory.
Promote soccer.
With FIFA, it's strictly business.

There was a Minnesota Twins game on tv about a month ago. An evening game and the weather was beautiful. The crowd had to be at least a few dozen, maybe more.
Baseball has this weird dynamic where the defense has control of the ball. Baseball has the most interesting and aesthetically pleasing execution of defense. I like that Soccer is also generally low scoring like the national pastime. But the defense isn’t as interesting, at least to me.
