Prepare to see Han shoot Greedo on the big screen again. For years, we thought it could never happen. But now we know for certain — the 50th anniversary theatrical release of the original Star Wars will indeed be George Lucas' original cut from 1977, not available commercially since 2006. The original Star Wars movie hasn't had a wide theatrical release in over forty years. But, according to the Star Wars official site, the original version of Star Wars blasts its way back into movie theaters for a limited release on February 19, 2027. This happens almost thirty years to the day that Star Wars: A New Hope: Special Edition was released theatrically to huge financial success.

I’d read years ago that George held all release rights for the original film to prevent her from receiving any royalties for it.
Greedo had a gun on him. I have no problem what Han did. I dont know why anyone looked at this as controversial whatsoever.
When Lucas wrote the first Star Wars, he didn’t have a plan for any sequels.
He called it Star Wars- Episode IV- A new Hope because he wanted to present the movie as a middle chapter of a serial. (ie Flash Gordon)

What is so great about the older films is the talent and creativity they had to use. Camera tricks, scaled models, sound effects.... Now, they just use a green screen and CGI. Everything is too clean.

Had a buddy stationed at Hahn at the same time. We’d bet together every few weeks. He worked the F4s, I worked the F15s.

That’s 1960s Elvis when he was doing most of his movies except the sideburns. Unfortunately when Star Wars was filmed and released he was sadly fat Elvis and in August 77 dead Elvis.
How original? There’s at least 3 “original” versions. The REALLY original theatrical cut that didn’t include the New Hope subtitle. The after it started making money original theatrical cut that included New Hope. And the VHS original cut that came out while they were working on Return and they edited out a lot of the flirting between Luke and Leia since they were about to be siblings.
They used to release the movies of yesteryear all the time. Disney had a whole schedule you could use to predict when your favorite was in theaters again. Of course that pre-VCR. That killed the rerelease market.
Since George Lucas disavowed the Christmas Special it is heretical to say this. In 1978 when it first aired, ever kid under 12 loved the Star Wars Christmas Special. The special was for kids, not adults, like all other Christmas TV specials were. This was the time when children’s television like Mr Rodger’s Neighborhood and the Muppet Show were popular. So in relation to kids TV at the time it wasn’t that bad.

Definitely not. The bar scenes, the dialogue, the stupid singing nonsense, etc. were NOT made for kids. Bea Arthur and Art Carney were NOT there to make it a kids movie.
