CNBC’s ranking of the 10 worst states to live in 2026—all of them Republican-led—has drawn criticism from conservatives.
The broadcaster gave each state a Quality of Life score based on factors including crime rates, air quality, healthcare access, worker protections and civil rights laws. The Quality of Life category was one of 10 in the outlet’s annual America’s Top States for Business study.
Tennessee was ranked the worst state to live in after receiving a score of just 64 out of 290.
CNBC noted that Tennessee had one of the highest violent-crime rates in the nation, citing FBI statistics, as well as the third-highest drug-death rate.
The broadcaster also cited state laws restricting transgender people’s bathroom access, limits on local anti-discrimination ordinances and Governor Bill Lee’s designation of June 2026 as “Nuclear Family Month.” June is widely recognized as Pride Month across the United States.
CNBC’s bottom 10 states for quality of life, from lowest-scoring upward, were:
Tennessee (64 out of 290) Texas (78) Indiana (82) Louisiana (89) Georgia (89) Utah (95) Missouri (98) Alabama (99) Oklahoma (103) Arkansas (103)

The list looks like goals. Keep out the riffraff.
Minnesota (and I bet most of the others on the list) is even worse when you factor it’s loss of gross income
Yes the population is going up
But they have lost 2 billion? (I can’t recall the number) of gross income per the irs
Aka the producers are leaving and welfare or low wage workers are replacing them
I will be guilty of adding to that gross income deficit next year
Hack writer just looking for cocktail party invites from lefties.... The real top ten, California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, Michigan, Minnesota.
Pure copium.
Most of this is due to crime.
TN has high crime because MEMPHIS is a SH#T Hole.
As is Nashville outside of the downtown tourist area.
Crime is a function of DEMOGRAPHICS and SKIN TONE.
In Maine, NH & Vermont there are 90% of more CAUCASIANS.
NH has the lowest crime rate in the country.
Maine and Vermont did until they started importing SOMALIS and other criminal aliens.
NH does not do this.
NH also has the LOWEST OVERALL TAX BURDEN in the USA.
That is why the FREE STATE project is active here.
We want like minded Conservative people to move here.
The Hispanics and Asians that move here primarily from MA have jobs. They own businesses. The Asians mostly went to high end universities. They are highly educated(like my Dentist). They move here because we have NO STATE INCOME TAX. NO SALES TAX. NO TAX on Interest and dividends.
Yes, we have high property taxes. But that money stays locally. You get to vote on those expenditures in your town.
Where we check IDs. That you are required to show to vote.
The number of Bucc’ees per capita should be one of the criteria. That would really benefit Texas.
I think the only metric they must have used to land these 10 at the bottom of their food chain was the paucity of pronouns in these thriving, growing 10 red states. Each only has two pronouns. They are way behind and have to import a full suite of blue state pronouns.
Funny, all the news talks about how the cost of living is so high and all anyone thinks/talks about, yet I didn’t see a cost component to their equation. Literally the thing they rant on excessively, they ignore in this instance cause it wouldn’t fit the narrative.
Do the Californians escaping to Texas know this?
Absolutely! There’s a reason Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire have the lowest crime rates in the country. One guess why.
I’m from Indiana and am just fine with being a “low scoring state”. Everyone else, stay the hell out.
CNBC, part of MS NOW. What do you expect? Yet NASCAR fans cheer MS NOW produced coverage for The Washington BLEEP.
It all depends on what they’re using for a yardstick, doesn’t it?
If you’re looking for a liberal paradise, meaning living a life of hedonism off ‘other people’s money’ (the hallmark of dem run states), where everybody hates America, then logic dictates that you won’t find that in a red state.
Q.E.D., IMHO
Sshhhh...let it be so. I don’t need Yankee wisdom and ethics visiting my life anymore than is necessary.
I have my compound in Midtown Memphis. Nobody messes with me. We do get our fair share of roof shingle damage from bullets and they jam up the pool cleaning robot now and then. They stay away from my neighborhood.
yes i agree! red states are terrible! please dont move here
I, my/mine, me, you, your, he, his, him, she, hers, her, it, its, they, their, them.
The list is an obvious joke compiled by hardcore Leftists. I’ve lived in several of those states as well as Minnesota, New York and California. I’ll take Arkansas and Georgia over any of those 3. My brother and sister live in Tennessee so I’ve been there a lot and I’ll gladly take that one over those 3 as well.
Then there is the matter of this....you couldn’t pay me to live in New England or anywhere on the Left Coast.
True, two genders can generate more than the 2 boring basic he/him, she/her descriptive pronouns for them but imagine how many pronouns these states could mine with 10 genders that need to be fancy dressed up with pronouns. California has now grown more pronouns than all the verbs, nouns and adjectives in their state dictionary. Indeed, the only thing that has not fled California yet is their pronouns.
The less, the better,,,,, as far as I am concerned…..what the heck does that matter?
