Massive bull bison tosses Yellowstone tourist into the air like a ragdoll in shocking attack

A massive bull bison tossed a tourist into the air, seriously injuring him, in a heart-pounding caught-on-camera attack at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Video shows the unidentified man being thrown 8 feet in the air like a ragdoll by the wild bison at the Bridge Bay Campground Friday, Cowboy State Daily reported.

The tourist was walking with his grandson when the powerful herbivore attacked.

Video shows the man running around a copse of pines to try to escape the bull, which was giving itself a dust bath moments earlier.

The bison suddenly charged the two tourists, and then viciously head-butted the older bearded man — catapulting him into the air.

Well, you should tell him to sue the buffalo. I watched it about 25 times so far. Somebody “did something wrong.” Grandpa or the buffalo.

What is shocking about it? Bison 🦬 doing what bison 🦬 always do when humans are near them.

“The article read that the bison came into a camping ground.”

With those things, and by the determination of the park, they have the right of way on any ground they stand. And you’re right, I have no idea why anyone would want to stop and not give way to a car size creature with limited vision in rutting season.

We’ve been to Yellowstone a few times and when confronted with one or more of these we bailed into a car or bus. They are pretty intimidating. So these idiots didn’t give it enough room for its determination and had no safe escape route. Hiding in trees is not going to get it done with the bisons’ sense of smell that can pick up odors at the two mile mark and a sense of hearing that can pick up sounds at great distances even before they can see any problems.

The park’s safe distance is 100 yards. The man was likely 50 feet away from the bull. He was being stupid.

Local news/witnesses reporting they were at least 100 yards away from the bison.

Rutting season and that particular bull bison was tearing up the campground moments before...the initial charge was at a white pickup getting the bison close to gramps & the grandson. The video was shot by a pro with a long lens foreshortening the look of distance. My take: bad luck.

She was eight years old, crossing a field she crossed all the time when a local bull decided enough was enough . She was gored on the inner thigh pretty badly.

local loco - in the video he is clearly not 100 yards from the animal. It is not foreshortening, he actually is very close. I did lots to TP work and that story is cock and bull.

Yeah my guess based on the video would be 35-45 yards away. Gramps out for a walk/hike w/grandson, bison comes out of the campground drops & rolls a couple of times in gramps line of sight he takes out his smartphone for a photo, bison bull then charges a pickup and continues on to gramps after pick-up speeds away. I am sticking with primarily “bad luck” vs. the typical tourist “get out of car 30 feet away from bison for a photo” behavior. YMMV

In MN farm country, farm kids get attacked by mean roosters.
That’s a great story.

It was rut season for the bison. I suggest 100-150 yards during that season.
