Under provisions of HB 4948, which Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed into law on Friday, the state will introduce the “Intelligent Speed Assistance Program,” designed to replace license suspension with a different alternative for drivers.

According to the text of the law, the program will require drivers who have committed two qualifying speeding or reckless driving offenses within a 12-month period to install a speed-limiting device on their vehicles, which will prevent them from exceeding the speed limit. Persons enrolled in the program will pay all costs associated with enrollment and participation, with exceptions for low-income

Virginia and Washington have already passed similar laws

It is done with GPS. My 2025 car alerts me when I exceed the speed limit.

I drove a new car. It could do that. I think it used the car GPS for location, and probably real-time mapping showing traffic conditions (requiring internet connetion), to determine the speed limit for my location.

Kind of helpful. Kind of ‘Big Brother’.

I love rock haulers who can’t be bothered to use the auto tarp to cover their over flowing loads of pea gravel

If you are going to drive a truck make sure your load is secured/covered

Minor injuries and lifelong trauma from something that wasn’t his fault. Selfish and stupid.

Yep, it also uses real time telemetry data from the sim card for traffic jams.

A logical assessment, but that sounds pretty complicated/bureaucratic. A stop like that might take a while.

I didn’t see a need to get too analytical because for all I know, Officer Ticket Quota prefers the easy pickins of an average citizen in an average vehicle, for the quick turn around back to his lookout perch. 😃

I do not know how this will work. Everyone here drives 15-20 miles faster than the limit. It would impede the flow of traffic.

“Illinois generally does not collect traffic fines directly from welfare recipients.”
But they do collect votes.

Like other Illinois laws, mandates, edits, etc. if it starts to affect minorities. It will be found racist and cancelled.
For example, Shot Spotters and Flock Cameras.

My favorite example of Illinois scams. The company I used to work for had several buildings in Schaumburg.
These buildings went vacant for a few years. Then when we wanted to get the buildings back in production, our facility manager went on site.
It turned out that all emergency exit doors needed to have a special fire proof paint, per local code.
The only vendor for the only approved paint happened to be the fire Marshall’s relative.

Yeah, like the moron trucker who passed me going in the opposite direction as his pea gravel went flying through the air cracking my windshield.

And in a few years it will be required for all cars and all drivers. The communist creep is always on the move.

Waze provides an audible beep or voice alert when you exceed the speed limit.

Merging onto the freeway in Phoenix without exceeding the speed limit will get you killed.
Got behind some yahoo yesterday trying to enter 80mph traffic at 50mph.

Yes, driving in Phoenix is definitely interesting. As you said merging can get dangerous especially when merging on I 10 and I 17.
