As we reported, Sen Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has been hospitalized for about three weeks. That's prompted some speculation on his condition and conspiracy theories, particularly from those on the left.
But some of those conspiracies took a hit when people like CNN commentator and Salem Media host Scott Jennings reported he had a conversation with McConnell, as did multiple other Republican politicians, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04).
But when CNN covered that story, they made a rather big and hilarious mistake, showing why we can never trust the media. Here they are reporting on the Republicans who supposedly said they spoke to McConnell, including one who spoke to him for about "45 minutes," Rep. Jack Kimble.
“So you have a lot of Senate Republicans coming out. We're going to just show some on screen, Isaac, all saying, “I talked to him.” “I talked to him.” “I talked to him for 20 minutes.” “I talked to him for 45 minutes.”
As Nicholas Spinnato of Newsbusters explained: Rep. Jack Kimble (CA-54) is a parody account; he doesn't exist.
Here's what the post looks like as of this writing.
I spoke to my old friend Mitch McConnell this morning, the senior Senator from Kentucky. He’s still recovering in the hospital. We talked for just shy of 45 minutes. He's so sharp. Just like always he let me do all of the talking. He's a great listener. After that we prayed silently for awhile and had a staring contest. Just like always, he beat me. I told him we want to see him back at work as soon as possible.
Seriously, CNN? If that's what the post looked like, they couldn't tell that it was a fake? And if that's what it looked like, they pared it down and weren't presenting the full tweet, which would have raised a question to most people.
Not only didn't CNN ask themselves why they hadn't heard of Jack Kimble before, but they didn't even bother to do a basic check on whether he was actually a member of Congress. How can you trust anything they say when they can't even do something that simple? How embarrassing can you get?
That also tells you (if we didn't already know) something about their failure of process in general. Is it any wonder President Donald Trump calls them "fake news" when they run such things? He's probably going to have a good laugh when he hears this one.
"Rep. Jack Kimble" had a little fun with them.
Good job, guy!
On Thursday, CNN's Audie Cornish fessed up to the mistake.
If we didn't already know how bad media can be, add another example to the can.

Good grief. We had a house of Representative guy from New Jersey who disappeared without a trace for four months or more. Comes back and give some lame excuse about mental health. He needed a mental health day that turned into four months or more. And they’re questioning McConnell over a couple weeks? What a bunch of hypocrites.
Warner should pull the pluton CNN now to deny Ellison the pleasure of doing so.
Ho Lee Fuk!
Sum Ting Wong....
Joe was brain dead for 4 years and not a peep out of the democrats.
Is it a conspiracy theory that Elaine Chao flew to Red China shortly after her husband’s cardiac arrest?
Sounds like cnn is running interference fom turtle man if you ask me
Well, to be fair, Joe was brain dead long before that, and no one seemed to notice or care, so you can't really blame them.
When I had heard that Scott Jennings had said that he talked to McConnell I thought OK I guess he talked to him, why would Jennings lie, he’s not someone I would think of as a liar. But then when I heard about Jennings and his long time connection to McConnell how he basically owes his entire political career to McConnell yeah it makes sense how he would make it up, so that people move on from the story
IF ...If Scott Jennings spoke to anybody at all, it was most likely an AI simulation. If there is some type of digital filter which would make your spoken voice ‘sound like’ someone else’s voice, then that may be what happened.
Scott J. seems like a sincere and righteous guy, but I have learned that sometimes even the sincere and righteous will lie for what they consider the right reasons.
Prove Me Wrong!
I liked Jennings but he is dead to me now.
I still don’t think Scott would like about it, though.
Nah Scott isnt a fool he wouldnt talk for 20 minutes with an AI simulation about Ukraine and Iran..that is what supposedly they discussed which is strange. I mean you are in the hospital for weeks, isnt it strange to be discussing world affairs I would think that would be the last thing on his head
I also wonder, what does “talked to” mean - or what could it be twisted to mean? Aide translating/relaying “what Mitch said”? I’d like some no BS interviewer to get Jennings on camera and ask some very specific questions like “Did you hear his voice? What did he sound like, was he coherent, tired, hoarse, etc? Who else was in the room who can corroborate your story”? Etc. Same with the others making similar claims, all of whom have a dog in this fight.
Those fools at CNN got punked by the digital equivalent of a Baba Booey phone call from back in the day.
“...had a staring contest. Just like always, he beat me...”
LOL
CNN NEEDS TO LOSE THEIR LICENSE
So would I. But the Mitch I know does like to impress when he can. I recall him on stage at the CPAC in 2014, hoisting a muzzle loading flintlock rifle up over his head to present it as a Lifetime Achievement Award to the retiring Senator
Tom Coburn.
