New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani couldn't resist referencing Egypt's devastating defeat to Argentina while addressing his constituents on Wednesday.
While Egypt would score legitimately shortly afterward, Argentina completed a dramatic comeback in the match's final 20 minutes to secure a 3-2 victory.
The defeat was so shocking that an Egyptian player alleged the World Cup was "fixed," and now Mamdani has weighed in on the controversy.
Addressing a crowd about the rollout of a new initiative to accelerate bus service, called the "Next Stop: Better Buses, Faster Service" plan, Mamdani outlined how the program will enhance New Yorkers' daily lives.
During his remarks, the soccer enthusiast couldn't resist alluding to Egypt's crushing Round of 16 elimination.
"Now if you take the bus to work, that adds up fast," he began. "Within six months, you will have spent 24 fewer hours on the bus. By the time, by the time a year rolls around, you will have saved more than two days of commuting time.
"That means breakfast with your family. It means having the time to argue balls and strikes at your kid's Little League game. It means getting home for bedtime."
He continued, "It means agreeing with your friends that Egypt were robbed yesterday. Above all, it means time returned to New Yorkers who don't have nearly enough of it."

My God, he’s a mini-Trump!
Under Socialist rules the win was fairly distributed to a poorer country for the common good.
Mam-dumbass of all people should understand that.
The longer I live, the less I care about what Mamdani thinks.
“”Egypt were robbed yesterday.””
He might find some time some day to speak proper English...
His claims about Egypt being robbed are ridiculous. They led 2-0 with 20 minutes left, and lost 3-2. If they couldn't hold on to that lead they have little to complain about.
Soccer is made I of Socalist rules. It negates individual achievement.
It looked legit to me🤷♂️
I’m sick of hearing about this guy, enough is enough. Who cares what the mayor of New York City says? I live 3,000 away from him.
