During discussions with the worker, organizers learned that Tesla was performing large-scale ductwork installations using more than 60 workers from across the country — workers who were not SMART members. The worker also identified the project location and explained that Tesla was staffing the operation through a temporary labor provider, Superior Skilled Trades (SST), based out of Florida.
Further investigation revealed that SST was recruiting heavily from Southern states and other regions with lower wage rates, making Tesla’s compensation package highly attractive to workers willing to travel. SST’s focus was on providing labor quantity rather than skilled sheet metal experience, resulting in many workers possessing only limited sheet metal backgrounds.
Tesla’s use of out-of-state workers posed a clear danger to SMART members, taking away work opportunities in the region. Recognizing this threat, Local 26’s Organizing Department quickly mobilized.

elon hates unions. i wonder if he will close the plant if the vote succeeds. not quite as easy as closing a starbucks or wal-mart. get the popcorn...
Tesla’s use of out-of-state workers posed a clear danger to SMART members“
A clear danger? Time for Tesla to move out of Nevada
Tesla: We need 350 pipefitters and sheet metal workers for a 2 year project. How many of these do you have available to start in 1 month?
And these will NOT be full-time hires.
Union: But, but, but ... jobs. And reasons!
Elon can hire whoever he wants. Unions today are largely a bunch of grifters who steal workers money and support left wing asswipes. Ever see union executives? They drive luxury cars, live in gated communities and live high on stolen money.
Yet another way to make a good living by running your mouth.
Been that way forever. The final nail for a Caterpillar dealers mechanics union decertification in @1978 (I was in HR there) was the financial sheet showing the leadership’s income.
Union: “We can get you and extra buck-fifty an hour”
Elon:” I can make you a millionaire”
SOUNDS MORE LIKE DUCTING IN NEW BUILDINGS...NOT ACTUAL TESLA CONSTRUCTION WORK
MUSK CAN BUST UNIONS 6 WAYS FROM SUNDAY
Elon and I have that in common. Been in one and supervised folks in one. No thanks.
350 TEMPORARY UNION ASSHOLES WILL NOT BE VERY WELCOME IN NEVADA.
But by Hoffa the union was great at getting your job back if you were fired for bringing drugs to work, or for skipping work, etc.
The Tesla factory in Austin is basically an Indian union. Over half the floor workers and 2 out 3 of leadership positions are Indians and they favor Indians. Line quality has dropped with internal defects because the floor workers are lazy and on any given day some are “out sick”. It got so bad they are having to train dealerships to fix things like loose door fittings on delivery that occurred in the factory because the workforce is too stupid and lazy to correct it. Shame, but this is what globalization gets you.
Dot not feather, I presume?
Correct.
Whenever I hear ‘Union Organizing’ this is what I don’t hear:
1. We are organizing to help make the product better and cheaper for Americans
2. We are organizing to help make the workflow and labor more streamlined to make America competitive
3. We are organizing to ensure cooperation for worker safety and OSHA Regulations
4. We are organizing to ensure the products being produced are better and more uniform at the factories.
5. We are organizing to help build American manufacturing and keep it from going overseas.
Nope. All I ever hear is that they want more ‘money’. That’s why many hard working gifted people like Musk don’t like Unions- because they aren’t about building anything.
Federal judge to Elon: “Do what the union tells you to do!”
