Been that way forever. The final nail for a Caterpillar dealers mechanics union decertification in @1978 (I was in HR there) was the financial sheet showing the leadership’s income.

I worked full time in a union job at a grocery warehouse for 8 years while I slowly went to college. I hated it. I hated the grandstanding by the union reps. I hated that I wasn't allowed to haggle for a raise because the contract said that slackers had to be paid as much as hard workers.

But by Hoffa the union was great at getting your job back if you were fired for bringing drugs to work, or for skipping work, etc.

I remember talk about that. My father had a welding business and would occasionally get called to work at a Cat dealership with his portable rig. He was friends with many of the workers there.
