VIDEOS AT LINK...............

Screencap of Twitter/X video. The roof of a BJ’s store in New Jersey collapsed this morning, apparently due to severe weather.

Although some shoppers ended up trapped in the structure for a while as emergency crews responded, miraculously, no one was hurt in the accident.

Imagine you’re just shopping at BJ’s, browsing the products you might buy and the next instant, the roof is falling in on you. It’s crazy.

FOX News has more details:

A large emergency response was triggered in Monmouth County, New Jersey, on Monday after a partial roof collapse at a local BJ’s Wholesale Club trapped multiple people inside during a wave of severe weather.

Just after 11:15 a.m. local time, emergency personnel rushed to the BJ’s Wholesale Club on Route 35 in Ocean Township following reports of the collapse, according to a statement from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office.

Shocking video appeared to show unsuspecting shoppers looking at grocery items seconds before the roof collapsed, sending a large amount of water gushing into the business.

Authorities confirmed 27 people were inside the building at the time of the incident, though no injuries were reported.

Two people were partially entrapped in the debris but managed to free themselves and safely escape the building.

Emergency teams deployed specialized rescue units to ensure the building was clear, conducting primary and secondary searches, according to the sheriff’s office.

Watch the video below. There is no audio:

This video shows some of the aftermath.

This is a drone shot from above the building.

It just goes to show, you always need to keep your wits about you.

You never know when you could find yourself in a situation like this one.

Looks like a flat roof that had a sag and collect more water than the structure could support. Amazing that no one was killed.

I’m amazed that there were only 27 people in the store. Every time I’ve been to Costco there are probably hundreds and hundreds of people throughout the store and if it’s near a holiday forget it.

Roof drains have guards to block leaves from entering. Those along with the scuppers need to be cleaned otherwise the roof ends up pooling water the roof trusses can’t support.

You never know when you could find yourself in a situation like this one.

In this case, July 6th. Just another day in the neighborhood. Walking down the aisle, then wham.

It's downright Biblical. The sign in the video clearly shows bread from heaven raining down, just not in the way people expect.

It's like some sort of countdown.

That's just the thing with the Internet. Floods, fires, runaway emus.. any little local event could end up with millions of onlookers.

It's all a wash.

The other vid with the (not work safe) audio track seems to have captured the reaction of someone from the Algonquin Roundtable. 😊

Every time I see solar panels on a roof, it makes me wonder if a civil engineer was involved to establish if the roof support structure was reviewed to see if the added weight of the panels meant that the safety margin was compromised.....

The stories read as though the whole thing collapsed. As bad as it was, it was one section of the roof.

I would suspect flaws in the original construction such as bad welds, or corrosion due to leaks. It looks like the weight of one HVAC unit brought it down.

The water in the inside photos looks like it was from broken sprinkler pipes, not from water on the roof.

Rounded to an odd number for evenness?

Here in Florida, some insurance companies will not insure your roof if it has solar panels on it.

Reason being the structure has been compromised, and screws and bolts have been used to mount the panels. Creating possible leakage places and causing premature failure and possible rot...............

Do you know how nasty water inside sprinkler pipes can be?

No experience with modern construction, but a week with them in the 70's helped me find a new career.

I was impressed at the strength of the wall of the above-ground pool we had when I was a kid (24x4, 12 squared * pi * 4 / 27 for cubic yards). Our neighbors had an 18-footer that tipped over in one of the area's occasional strong winds.
