WASHINGTON — DC was a little too busy going full America for this New York Times reporter.
A famed ex-NPR host-turned-podcaster for the Gray Lady ignited a social media firestorm for railing against the dozens of military flyovers that roared across DC’s skies to mark America’s 250th birthday.
Lulu Garcia-Navarro, who hosts “The Interview” for The Times, decried the awe-inspiring display of America’s awesome military and engineering genius as “nerve-wracking,” triggering widespread social media mockery.
“Why are we having so many jets scorching over DC? Nerve-wracking. I get 250 celebrations, but it feels like the apocalypse,” Garcia-Navarro groused on X on Friday.
She had complained at the very beginning of the aircraft flyover, which went on for a little over three hours on Friday.
The patriotic show of force more than doubled that time on Independence Day.
The flyovers saw B-2 bombers, NASA F-5s, Thunderbirds, Ospreys, Golden Knights, and, on Saturday, Air Force One blast through DC’s airspace.
On Saturday, DC also had a record-breaking, dazzling 850,000 fireworks launched, surpassing the prior record of 810,904. For context, DC typically sets off 7,000 at the National Mall to celebrate Independence Day.

Meanwhile, she’s like, “AC up to 78? No problemo! Viva Mamdani!”
Liberals. Make up stuff. Then believe it.
To Hell with these people. Your name is known buddy so you should watch your back.
“Those are our jets now”
If a democrat was in office it wouldve been a “patriotic display of our nations military and its amazing technology set against the backdrop of the birthday of the greatest nation that has ever existed”…. But Trump… so end of the world- USA is terrible.
The Left isn’t happy unless it is complaining about something. Exhibit A - Lulu Garcia-Navarro, Karen extraordinaire.
Your niece is hard of hearing?
Like the many foreign visitors here for the World Cup, this reporter needs to get out of the New York leftist bubble and go through flyover country to see the real America and meet real Americans who are proud of this country and appreciate living free. Of course hating all things Trump is part of his attitude, but TDS is endemic in places like the east and west coasts. His column might play well in communist ewe York, but the majority of Americans likely find it offensive and stupid.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Do you mean Armageddon? 😏
Ha! I was just going to say that. The quote's from some Hollywoodhead Friend Of Bill at the Jan '93 inauguration during the traditional Arlington ceremony, which in turn features a fly-by. As I recall, he said something like: When the jets flew over, I at first cringed at this naked display of raw military power. But then I brightened up when it dawned on me - Hey! Those are *OUR* jets now!
Yep, good memory.
These reporters couldn’t make it through boot camp in any military service.
They are still like they were back in the 40s:
“The New York Times did not have an agenda to support Nazism, but its coverage during the Nazi era, particularly by its Berlin bureau chief Guido Enderis, often downplayed Jewish persecution and presented a favorable view of the Nazi regime.”
How many Virtue Points does she get for complaining about a 4th flyover?
The New York Times is an independent news organization, but its opinion section and editorial board generally lean liberal, aligning more with the Democratic party. The paper has not endorsed a Republican presidential candidate since 1956. Its news reporting division strives for journalistic objectivity, though its coverage is frequently viewed as left-leaning by conservative critics and readers.
Another one in the fail file.

She was thinking, a hot dog cookout with Kool Aid and a box of cheap wine in Rock Creek Park. Yeah, that's the ticket!
It’s not like the PA was playing the Ride of the Valkyries during the flyovers.
