Baseball has some really cool moments now and then. This is one. Some background: 1. Since College Baseball World Series, and 2. Several recent World Cup games ... Fans have taken up singing John Denver's "Country Roads." Well at today's Brave's home game, when our star catcher came up to bat (he's a good hitter) the crowd started signing 'take me home, country roads,' And Olsen (the batter) LAUNCHED a home run far into the right field stands. The crowd sang loudly and cheerfully as he circled the bases. Happy Birthday, USA.

OK, OK, SINGING, not signing(sic). We regret the error.
Olson is not a catcher, he plays 1st base.
Additionally, that game was on Friday July 3rd.
Cool - thanks for sharing.
OTOH, wth is going on?

I think most people have finally moved on from wanting to sing “Sweet Caroline” in big public groups.
Now it’s this song for a while, for whatever reasons.
I watched baseball for awhile today. Nice to see it again. It was my son’s favorite sport. He had season tickets for the Mariners and even a season parking place.
took me there one day, explained what was happening and what might happen.
really made it enjoyable for me. He died a few years ago. bittersweet moment—mostly sweet. thanks for posting this. Might watch baseball more often. Hate football, love golf. soccer? that’s a game? Yuk.
West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home country road!!!!
I’ll choose an even cooler moment when Yordan Alvarez hit his second home run of the day, a two-run walk-off over the center field wall as the Astros overcame a 7-2 deficit to topple first-place Tampa Bay, 10-8. That gave him 6 RBIs for the day.
Here is the guy who played the organ.

My father is a diehard Cardinals fan. Yesterday I was on the phone with him (91 years old) while working on his computer. He was having problems with his sound driver and could hear sound. I fixed it for him and replayed the video clip over and over. He was happy that I fixed his computer but wanted me to take that song off. I did after 5 minutes.
Indeed Matt Olson is our first baseman, Greg Olson was our all-star catcher back in our worst to first era.
And yeah, I meant to post this Friday and had left that browser window at “preview” and had never posted.
Thanks for the corrections.
Still a cool story.
