An 11-year-old from Canada has died after contracting rabies following contact with a bat.
According to a June Canadian Medical Association Journal report, the unnamed boy died several weeks after the bat landed on his face while vacationing with family in Northern Ontario in the summer of 2024.
The bat was reportedly on his nose and face when he woke up, and he swatted it away before his father caught it and later released it.
Due to a lack of evident scratches and bite marks, the boy was left untreated for approximately 19 days before he began to develop facial numbness and began to vomit consistently.
An urgent care reportedly treated him for Bell’s palsy before his condition worsened. The family took him to an emergency department, where he received treatment for rabies after doctors learned of his interaction with the bat.
Notwithstanding the care, the boy’s condition worsened...

Good point. =)
Agreed 100%.
I hate when that happens
That’s terrible...I’ve heard how horribly painful those shots are...for a week? HORRIBLE!!
We were on vacation one year at my parents farm in PA and a feral cat was hanging around the house and climbing on a porch screen yowling madly...I didn’t see it happen but my stepfather went outside, into the barn and apparently WITH the cat as that was the last we saw of the cat..My sister said, “Did he kill that cat?” I said, “I sure hope so.”
On occasion when we are outside listening for owls, a bat will fly by. I know they won’t hit you but it’s unnerving.
“”bags””
Can’t say I’ve ever run into anything like that - LOL!
The poor kid died because of the ignorance and incompetence of his parents.
Canada socialist (non) healthcare. Espexially for white Canadians.
“”The Ebola virus is spread by bats.””
A great book I’ve never forgotten - “The Hot Zone”...about researching Ebola and tracking it back to where it came from...True story that took place in a laboratory outside DC....There was a TV series about it but I’ve never seen it.
I think what I always heard as a kid was that they would get in your hair and you wouldn’t be able to get one out....That’s what I remembered if there were any around.
Your friend is FOS. I had good reason to look up all the stats.
By the time he had even mild symptoms it was too late.
Rabies exposure on the head and face has a very short path to the brain.
Rabies from a bite to a foot can take a year to manifest.
The time to treat him was right after exposure and the whple family should have been treated.
I no longer feel paranoid about getting the shots after a bat in the house while we slept.
Though a million people must have a bat in the house every year in the US and human rabies cases are rare, 2 to 5 / year.
Show me the rabies case. The vaccinations estimates by veterinarians are marketing BS.are
“Even an unnoticed drop of bat guano will give you rabies.”
Rabies can be a fatal disease. However, people cannot get rabies from just seeing a bat or even from having contact with bat guano (feces), blood, or urine. Rabies is primarily transmitted by a bite, lick, or scratch from an infected animal.

All the aocialist Democrat communists : “ We need the O Canada universal National Health “Care” (with Medical Encouragement of Suicide, of course)” ..
The shots are very expensive.
Of course we are assuming that the parents took their child into Emergency that night which might be in error.
Perhaps they just looked to see if he had any scratch or bite marks and not seeing any called it good.
I would not like to think that.
But the dad captured the bat and LET IT GO. Bring the bat in to be checked is the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to find out if the animal was rabid.
So it is possible.
Isn’t the latest rabies treatment one tenth as painful, traumatic ?
I hope a bat shits in your mouth when you are sleeping. Moron. Don’t bother responding because you are just a stupid loser who goes around starting arguments. The only reason I responded is because someone might mistake you for a normal human and ignore getting a rabies protocol because you posted a link. Retard. Nobody listen this idiot! He’s a tranny!
How ‘n Hell did parents interact with doctors and NOT get the damned bat into the medical narrative right outta the gate?
Bats are one of THE top vector animals in the wild, and having one on your face — I’d have had the kid in for a checkup within days after returning home.
