Hours before Haruki Murakami's new book was set to go on sale in Japan on Friday, dozens of fans gathered outside a major Tokyo bookstore for a special event to get their first copies as soon as the clock struck midnight.
“The Tale of KAHO” is the Japanese author's first full-length novel featuring a lone woman protagonist, according to Shinchosha Publishing Co.
“Kaho, a picture book author, is just an average young woman. But truly bizarre things start happening around her,” Murakami said in a brief message posted on the publisher’s campaign website. “I wrote this novel as I put myself in her shoes.” His statement surprised many fans, because most of Murakami's protagonists are young or middle-aged men.

It is nice to see people still reading books.
Better start than “It was a dark and stormy night…”. Got to find out how that blind date ended up!
I like it when people are honest and forthright.
Yeah, same here. But some go too far! My wife listens to a radio program story each morning “2nd date update”, where someone complains they have been ghosted after a blind date and want a 2nd date. The responses of the called ghosting date subject are hilarious, as the ghosted dater doesn’t realize how stupidly they acted on the blind date. Often dishonest in their self-descriptions, but more often in how they treat someone. Reminds me of my youngest granddaughter, when I was helping her build a toy project. She looks me in the eye and says “Your breath stinks!”. I got some a breath mint and thanked her. Be honest, and be nice!
Anyone who wants on the literature ping list let me know.
Thanks! I haven’t experienced this author. Always on the lookout for good ones.
I haven’t read a lot by him, but in my estimation he is a good writer.
Ping please.
Japanese light novels/manga/anime often have great stories and great artwork, some very emotional and compelling.
My county digital library has many of his books and, judging by how many of them are on hold, they’re very popular. I borrowed one directly after having read your post.
